After Update ThunderBird (14.x->45.4.x) very slow starting, after crash some nstmp-? Folders

Hello,
I have a few questions about my "Thunderbird Portable":
*
I have for my wife and me respectively copies on a Fritz!Box connected hard disk (NAS).
Since a Thunderbird update from 14.x.x to 45.4, the start takes up to 10 minutes and often crashes.
In addition, the address book is no longer visible in the view.

Is it possible to install a dowgrade on an earlier version?
*
Since few days I have in the tree view, some some nstmp- (0-5) folder and the folder structure got something mixed. Probably since one of the crashes.
How can I repair the whole again?

Thanks for Help

Too Far An Upgrade

It's possible that that's just too far an upgrade for Thunderbird to handle. 14.x was about 5 years ago and a lot has changed in the interim. I'd highly recommend a complete scan of all systems that used Thunderbird 14.x recently as it's insecure and vulnerable to remote code exploits just by reading email messages.

That said, you can get the old version from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Thunderbir...

You could try smaller upgrades first from 14 to maybe 17 or so and go from there.

As for how or why it happened, I couldn't say. I don't develop Thunderbird or know everything about the internal structures. I do know the address book is in an entirely different format between 5 years ago and now and that Mozilla could easily have removed the code that handles the upgrade from the old format to the new years ago.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
