So I don't see any truly free encryption programs that don't have to be installed. But I do know of a great app that is 100%(as in beer) that does not need to be installed. Truecrypt is an encryption program that creates a Virtual Drive that is encrypted. This is an opensource project, so is it possible that they can include it in the Suite?
and it works very well but as been pointed out in many postings it requires admin priviledges on any PC it's used on. While that may work for you it won't work for people using locked PCs such as in cafes, work PCs and such.

TrueCrypt is available by bogarting it off of the "Wininizio Pen Suite" software. Just read the details as to the smallest version they have which contains this tool, DL it, extract the zip somewhere, and find the subfolder that's labeled "TrueCrypt", and go to town...

TrueCrypt is great stuff....I use it all the time with no problems.....in traveler mode it will leave registry settings behind and you do have to have admin rights or have it installed on the host computer.
when you format your thumb drive it will take awhile so be patient. and I would advise to read the setup tutorial before you dive into using it....

As has mentioned many times, TC requires admin privileges to mount a virtual drive. There is no way around this. TrueCrypt can never be truly portable, so this thread is pointless.
Vintage!
If it's installed on the pc by the admin it will work....even if your account doesn't have admin rights....and if you don't have admin rights you can right click on the truecrypt.exe and left click on run as and then put in the admin password and it will work. and yes it's portable....that's why it's called "traveler mode"

you have admin rights or IF you know the admin password or IF you can convince an admin to install it for you. But IF NOT there's not a thing you can do to get it working. Plenty of PCs that people use, at work, libraries, schools, internet cafes, etc do not give you those options. That's the point we're trying to make.
That is true..........
