Downloaded latest 1.5 MB stub for v66 and it appeared to install & work OK for awhile, then crashed
Best I can remember, I was logging into Facebook and it asked me if I wanted to accept notifications
I accidentally clicked the main screen with mouse while trying to move to the yes/no box
Everything froze so I had to kill the process with Alt-F4 to recover
Then I looked in C:/portableapps as indicated during installation (where I have other portable apps working OK)
But it was not there or anyhere on my computer that I could find!
So I tried installing again but it does NOT install at C:/portableapps, so I have no way to make a shortcut etc
Where is it? Why doesn't it install?

It was more serious than I thought, causing damage to my op system.
Google Chrome did not appear as an installed application in Programs & Features. I also looked with regedit and could find no remnants in the registry, and nothing in likely locations. I also ran Google Chrome removal tool which found nothing either.
However CCleaner showed it as a new app, available for cleaning. When I ran CCleaner, it deleted 1 Google Chrome cookie. Then I got several strange gmail messages from Google saying the sync was successful, which blew my mind. Syncing was the furthest from my thoughts, definitely not intended. Apparently it had somehow interacted with my eM Client. Obviously something unknown had happened, so I tried a system restore to a recent point. That stopped the strange emails from Google, but it's still listed in CCleaner. I've asked at the Piriform (CCleaner) forum about that problem.
Otherwise I have my fingers crossed about the health of my op system. I've tried several portable versions of Chrome in the past without problems, except they showed more signs of independent life & activity than I expect of a portable version. Maybe they've reached a break point.
The current Portable Apps Version is '62' NOT '66'. Google has no link to a Version '66' yet.
If your reference to Version '66' was a typo; and as you are the only one reporting the problem, then it's far more likely that you have a system problem, especially as PortableApps never show up in User Systems as uninstallable applications because they aren't installed in the normal sense that Windows (or uninstaller programs) understand.
