Funny you should ask that question - I have a need for something like this right now - I have a users computer that full HDD encryption is required by law to be on, and the encryption software hosed the BCD - luckily I had a winPE CD to boot to to run the actual repair - however, a nice portable GUI would be nice - especially to be able to boot with winPE, plug in a USB and then edit the BCD or be able to manipulate it to remove the suspect partitions that are causing my issues.
I'm certain this can't be the only reason - but the BEST reason is simply "Just Because"
EasyBCD ist not just a GUI for editing BCD, it contains also some system components which need to be on the drive before you can use it. If you need just the BCD editing part well, OK, but the rest?
All of the files required to run EasyBCD are installed into its own directory. There's nothing hiding here or hiding there. It's all in the EasyBCD folder. So, copy the EasyBCD folder to your flash drive or simply install directly to the USB.
...as you are not new to the forums, it would be really great if you used the beta testing forum, (I know, you did it before, theres a whole bunch of useful dev test from you ).
Yes - the forums are not that active anymore, but it does not help, if you post your creations criss-cross in some request topics... They obviously disappear over the time and are not easy to find with the simple search function here - would be a pitty for your work.
I am not sure what reason should be to have easybcd portable, but possibly there is one.
This is a front end for the windows bootmanager and will be in general installed on the windows partition where also the bootmanager is located.
Is there a special case when easybcd should be somehow separate from the actual windows installation? (e.g. on portable drive like usb stick?)
