[Fixed] Firefox and Cherry Tree won't launch after updating

On this thread...
https://portableapps.com/node/56695

...John TH said that Firefox is not supporting XP after version 55, and thus that is the reason why more recent versions of Firefox Portable won't launch in XP. However, I have the same problem in Cherry Tree: v 0.38.0 works fine, but 0.38.3 won't launch.

This problem might affect a lot more apps than just Firefox and cherry Tree, but those were the only two I updated before finding the problem. Any thoughts, John?

Thanks.

FYI I am on:
XPSP3
32 bit

...upgrading...
Firefox 52.02 to latest
Cherry Tree 0.38.0 to latest

END

XP support

MAny applications are dropping support for XP, as it is no longer a supported OS by Microsoft, and the compilers used to make those programs don't support XP anymore.

This often occurs without notifying users, so that may be the case with CherryTree.

53, Cherrytree failing on XP

Firefox dropped Windows XP in version 53. You need to use Firefox Portable ESR 52.x on Windows XP currently. Support for it will be dropped in April 2018.

The current release of Cherrytree no longer runs on Windows XP. This includes installing a local version. I'll check tomorrow if it's a possible missing VC dll.

Remember that apps will drop XP regularly and will generally not announce when they do. Most apps no longer officially support Windows XP but many still work. This usually stops when developers add a Windows 7 and up-specific feature or switch to a more up to date compiler that doesn't support older versions of Windows.

Cherrytree 0.38.3 Rev 2

I've just posted a revision that bundles the required Visual C libraries that some Windows XP users may be lacking.
