jPortable 152 Error

Each time I try installing I get a SendRequest Error just like the previous online installer. Nothing downloads and the installer just stops with the error.

Also, each time a new version of java is released my current portable java becomes disabled as if it checks for a new update each time I use it. Java will not work anymore until there is a new portable update and that can take weeks. Is there a way to disable jportable from checking for new versions and just continue to run with the one I have?

IE and Software Firewall

The installer uses the Windows components to download Java. You can be sure IE is working properly on your machine by downloading this file in IE, which is what the 32-bit version of jPortable 152 is attempting to download. It often comes down to an issue of Windows needing to be fully updated in the case of older versions of Windows or a software firewall/antivirus interfering with the installer trying to connect externally. If you fall into this group and don't want to have to allow using all different installers to download, using the PortableApps.com Platform can alleviate that as you can just whitelist PortableAppsUpdater.exe and that will handle the downloads of all your installers and any online components they need.

Windows XP Machine

Unfortunately, this machine is running Windows XP SP3 in order to run older software that I need. If someone could post the tar.gz with the files then that would be the best solution for me.

Thanks

Still Works, Update

The platform and installers still work on Windows XP as long as you've applied all updates. If you haven't already, install IE8 for Windows XP and then apply all updates via Windows Update. I also recommend installing the latest Windows Media Player for Windows XP via Windows Update as well. This will get your copy of Windows XP as up to date and secure as it can be as well as compatible as it can be with modern software as it will update the internal Windows components as it installs the latest IE.

Stop Checking For Updates

How do you disable the check for new updates in jPortable?

Uncheck

You can't currently, so you'll need to uncheck each time you check for new apps. The usual method of renaming the path will mean apps can't find it.

AppInfo

Go to the folder App/AppInfo of your portable app.
Open the file appinfo.ini or plugininstaller.ini.
Increase the number in line PackageVersion= in section [Version].
If the number is greater than an upcoming release version the portable app won't be updated.
