Emsisoft Emergency Kit Portable Dev Test 2

Application: Emsisoft Emergency Kit
Category: Security
Description:
The Emsisoft Emergency Kit contains a collection of programs that can be used without software installation to scan for malware and clean infected computers: Emsisoft Emergency Kit Scanner and Emsisoft Commandline Scanner. (Source: Homepage)

Permission was granted to me by Emsisoft to create Emsisoft Emergency Kit Portable.

NOTE:
This package will install both the 32-bit and the 64-bit editions of the program. With that being said, when you do an online update of the definitions for this application, both editions will be automatically updated regardless of which version you're using at the time.

If asked to restart Emsisoft Emergency Kit after updating the definitions, select no and close the app manually than relaunch to have the newly updated definitions loaded properly.

This application makes use of a Windows Service. I have added a file named Services.nsh in a folder called Segments in the Source directory. This file can be used to replace the official Services segment as it is in working order and does not require any extra plugins. Plus, it works with both ANSI and Unicode variants of NSIS. If anyone is curious as to how it works, open the Services.nsh file and the EmergencyKitPortable.ini to see how it works. The Services.nsh file is well commented for those who want to know what's happening step by step.

There is two portable launchers made available with this release; CmdlineScanPortable.exe (commandline utility) and EmergencyKitPortable.exe (main program). I've included the source code for CmdlineScanPortable.exe inside the Source directory for review as well. Look for a file called CmdlineScanPortable.nsi

This application requires administrative privileges to run.

UmbraEmsisoft has also informed me that the service (epp.sys) is automatically handled on exit so there is no need to use my special build.

Looks Useful

Looks pretty good.

Do they intend to maintain the application?
If they do, can it be integrated into the platform?

Yes, this is being maintained

Yes, this is being maintained on the long run. The package is being re-compiled every 24h to include the latest detection signatures of both engines (Bitdefender + Emsisoft).

Best regards

Amazing!

This is great news.

@John, could that be incorporated into the PA.c application?

Revision 4 now available!

I've created a new version which can be found over at The Portable Freeware Collection
https://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=23624

This new version is much better than it's predecessors and the size of the package is now cut in half. The original versions were over 650mb but now its barely 370mb after install and first signature update! You can find more details about this release over at TPFC.

If you're a fan of this program than revision 4 is a must have in your portable application collection! Trust me.
