XnViewMP Portable 0.83 Dev Test 2

Application: XnViewMP
Category: Graphics & Pictures
Description: From the publisher's website:
XnViewMP is the enhanced version to XnView. It is a powerful cross-platform media browser, viewer and converter. Compatible with more than 500 formats.

Unrivaled Compatibility

XnViewMP supports more than 500 image formats (including Multipage and animated still formats APNG, TIFF, GIF, ICO, etc..) and export to about 70 different file formats.

Batch Conversion

XnViewMP comes with an easy to use yet powerful batch conversion module. This same module also powers XnConvert

And much more...

Virtually all of standard XnView's much loved features have been preserved in XnViewMP and many features have actually been tweaked and enhanced.

Compared to XnView

Optimized Performance

Considerable improvements have been made in terms of performance (speed-optimized loading, improved caching, multi-core processing, 64bits version, etc...)

Multi-Platform

Windows, Mac OS X and Linux are now supported in both 32 and 64 bit versions

World-Wide compatible

XnViewMP finally offers Unicode support. Enhanced translations for many languages as well as a brand new and convenient modular interface.

MediaFire project page

Download XnViewMP Portable 0.83 Dev Test 2 (58.2MB download / 211MB installed)
(MD5: e4c0c520243b3d7b6f4b529121ca6de9)

Note: This package includes both the x86 and x64 versions of XnViewMP. They are currently in two separate folders inside the package (effectively doubling the size) until I figure out which items can be shared without breaking the program.

not needed

If I'm reading the information correctly on the publisher's site, this Dev test isn't needed - we just need to update xnview to this version.

Also, regarding 32/64 IMO, 64bit is unnecessary for portable use for this app.

The way I read it is that

The way I read it is that XnViewMP is like a "testing ground" for stuff that gets into XnView (or XnConvert) eventually, but I could be wrong. And I tend to put in 64-bit versions in my dev tests because I think it's useful to some extent. But hey, if this replaces XnView Portable, that'd be cool; I've been using XnViewMP for a few months now on my own computer.

Also, it's worth noting that it's not quite as stable as regular XnView, so direct replacement might not be good. But that's just my opinion.

Replacement rather than test.

Under the "Related Links", there is one to the page about the original XnView.
The tooltip for that link actually describes that as a "Legacy Version".

So it appears that rather than a testing ground, it is meant as the replacement and successor to the original product.

If MP had been a minor update, incremental changes from the current version of the original then I could have seen it being a testing ground.
But that is not the case.

Therefore this should certainly be replacing XnView at some point in the future, as development on that I don't think will continue.

If at first you do not succeed, use more sticky tape.

Tooltips

I never actually noticed the tooltips in Related Links for either XnViewMP or XnView (Legacy). On the regular XnView page, the tooltip for XnViewMP says it's the successor. Well, that being said, if the devs decide to make MP the official version, then I'd love to see it there. In the mean time, I'll continue with this separate build.

The original is a mature

The original is a mature product, so the separation is a good idea until MP reaches the point of being a stable product.

If at first you do not succeed, use more sticky tape.
