Eject not working with the new 15.x versions

Starting on Sunday when the new 15 version came out the EJECT is no longer fully working
for me on two different Thumb drives. I am having to eject the thumb drives using the Windows 10
ejection. This was not a problem with the previous 14.x versions.
I just updated again today to the latest 15.x fixes...But still EJECT is not working and requires that
I use the Windows 10 eject to properly eject the Thumb Drives. Again this was not an issue for me
with the PortableApps 14.x versions. OS is WIndows 10 Pro 1709 (32bit). Regards.

Please Test This

Could you please browse to the PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\Bin directory and open the USB_Disk_Eject.cfg file in a text editor then paste the following inside:

[Preferences]
ShowWindowsEjectMessage=1
PreserveWindowLocation=0
PreserveWindowSize=0
AutoResize=1
StartAppMinimised=0
CloseToTray=0
MinimizeToTray=1
BalloonMessages=0
CardPolling=1
CloseRunningApps=0
ForceAppsClose=0
AudioNotifications=0
ShowPartitionsAsOne=0
HideCardReadersWithNoMedia=1
ShowCardReaders=1
AfterEject=1
CardPollingInterval=5000
MaxWidth=0
WindowHeight=233
WindowWidth=345
WindowLeftPos=200
WindowTopPos=200
SnapTo=1
MinimizeWithEsc=1

[Hotkeys]
NumHotkeys=0

[Cardreaders]
NumCardreaders=0

Be sure to keep it as an ANSI file.

Sorry for the delay...

Sorry for the delay...

Replaced the above with what was already in the .cfg

Tried several times mounting/unmounting...

Unfortunately it didn't make a difference. The EJECT is not working
correctly (for me)...It appears to work but when you check in windows explorer I see
the thumb drive still mounted. I have to Eject it with Windows. This was not the case
under versions 14.x (or earlier)...

15.0.2

Please try today's release of 15.0.2. It is working on the Windows 10 machines in my testing where it was not before.

I just tried 15.02 today....

I just tried 15.02 today....
I tested it on four machines....3 of the 4 tested it worked fine...
But of course wouldn't you know it that my main system
it still does not eject. Had to eject with Windows. I tried
disabling the antivirus to see if that made a difference
(I have the same AV on all my systems)...But it didn't make
a difference. I tried different USB ports on the computer it
would not eject. Didn't make a difference. Oh well...Not a big
deal...It did work on this system before under 14.x...Weird that
15.x would not be working on this system when it seems to work
on the others I've tried. All systems tested are Windows 10 (32bit)
either Home or Pro. Thanks.

Run directly

You can try running the eject utility directly to see if it shows an error on your main machine. It's called eject.exe and it's in X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\Bin. We finally upgraded to the latest version of it in the 15.x line after being stuck on a years old version with known bugs with newer devices due to the current versions having issues with Windows XP. The last couple versions the developer released work with Windows XP and seemed fine in our 3 month beta test on other systems as well. It works fine on my two Windows 10 x64 machines (one home on pro). Try running it and ejecting the current drive (with all your apps closed) and see if it gives a message of some sort.

I tried it...It did not

I tried it...It did not display any error messages. Thumb drive just kept flashing but when it's done flashing
I check in Explorer and I still see it mounted. I tried changing one of the settings in the Eject Utility's Options
to Force Programs Closed but that also did not make a difference.

I am going to pull a backup of the old 14.x version that should be on a Hard drive image and take the Eject utility from
the 14.x version and replace it into the 15.x version and see if that works.

Got the old eject.exe.

Got the old eject.exe. Renamed the current eject.exe to eject.bad.
Then put the old eject utility on the thumb drive in the appropriate folder.
Tried running the eject in the normal fashion. Did not eject.
So I tried running the eject.exe directly...Old eject utility came up with
a list of drives. Picked the thumb drive. This time it came up with a
message that it would not eject as another program was using it.
I did notice something. With the old 14.x version when you hovered
the mouse pointer over the eject button on the PortableApps menu
I would get flashing on the thumb drive. I would always wait for that
flashing to stop before pressing the eject button. Now under the 15.x
menu I no longer get any thumb drive flashing when I hover the mouse
pointer over the eject button. I'm going to maybe try replacing some other stuff
on the 15.x version.

I found what appears to be

I found what appears to be the problem.
I had mentioned that I had disabled AV before but that had not fixed it.
What I had disabled was Kaspersky. What I had not disabled was Malwarebytes.
What I found after disabling a lot of stuff (that did not work) was finally after
Closing Malwarebytes that I could eject the PortableApps.com Thumb drive
every time on the problem computer if Malwarebytes was closed. This was
tested using a restored version of PortableApps 14.x
I am now going to restore PortableApps 15.x to confirm that it's Malwarebytes
(The latest PAID version 3.5.1.2522) that is causing the Eject problem on this computer.
The strange thing is on the other three computers I've tested Eject with Malwarebytes
is NOT causing an issue with Ejection (And I verified the MB settings are the same).
Will post back once more with confirmation once I have PortableApps 15.x restored
to the thumb drive.

Clean file. Ever have malware?

The eject.exe file is clean (virustotal analysis). Has this PC had malware in the past? That can sometimes mess things up a bit to the point that a full Windows reinstall is all that will fix everything.

Never on this system.This

Never on this system.This system is a Windows 10 32bit Pro system.
My systems have far too much to do clean installs. What I have to do is
clean install and Migrate Applications (using PC Mover)...Otherwise a clean
install would take a week (or more) to reinstall everything...I maintain
Images for when things go wrong...My guess is there's something causing
something to hang in memory on this system. Like I said I have KIS and MB
installed on all my systems and all are scanned daily. Of the four I tested
with the PortableApps thumb drive ejection only my main system has the issue.
I'm in the middle of restoring the 15.x .zip to the thumb drive now (with the new eject.exe)
and will report back as soon as it get's done. Malwarebytes just updated to this version last
week I think so it's probably just something with this version and the one PC. I did try
reinstalling MB (Using MB's clean utility) but that didn't fix it. I also tried excluding the
entire PortableApps thumb drive in MB as a test. But that also did not fix it.
Will report back once the .zip of 15.x gets finished.

15.x was restored and I

15.x was restored and I confirm that it is indeed a Malwarebytes issue with the eject.exe (Same for the old version and the new version).
It's only on my main system of the four I tested (I've got more)...It's not a big deal as I can simply eject it with Windows.
If I quit Malwarebytes before eject then it works fine. If Malwarebytes is running then eject does not complete. Hopefully
this might be useful to someone else. Thanks.
Malwarebytes version is 3.5.1.2522

I wanted to pass along

I wanted to pass along further info...

I found that in previous versions of Malwarebytes some people had problems ejecting USB drives when the RANSOMWARE Protection was enabled in Malwarebytes.
I never experienced this however. Just as a test I tried disabling RANSOMWARE Protection prior to ejecting with the Portableapps Eject utility.
I found that everytime I disabled the Ransomware protection I was able to successfully eject the USB drive with the Portableapps Eject utility.
Everytime I enabled it the Portableapps Eject utility would not complete successfully and would require me to eject with the Windows 10 eject.
Just though I'd pass this additional information along that I've now narrowed it down to Malwarebyte's Ransomware Protection that is inhibiting
the Portableapps Eject from working on this computer.
