"Regarding the size mismatch, we will not be able to assist you from our end as this is beyond our support boundary. You may contact Thunderbird support team for further assistance. In our records, your account shows 8.63 MB used out of 5 GB." - the message I got from Zoho unable to explain the discrepancy in TB local inbox size.
I got 5 accounts, including 2 Zoho accounts, but the one in question is the most active so usually larger then others. However, I matched all the settings with other imap accounts, regularly delete messages and compact folders as my server size shows, but local inbox is not getting smaller. I moved the app from a 1G SD card to 32G card, but prefer to stay with imap. What's wrong? TB 2.0.0.4 on winXP system
Please check the version of Thunderbird within the About box in the app itself. I think you posted the version of the launcher. You'll want to have 52.8.0, the current stable version and the only one that is supported and secure. Your launcher is out of date, so you probably haven't updated the app in a while: https://portableapps.com/support/portable_app#upgrading
As to the size, you can try right-clicking on the folders (Inbox, etc) and selecting to Compact. When you delete email, it isn't removed locally, just hidden. It will be removed when you compact your folders.

It does not reduce the inbox' size. Yes, I have an old version and the number I posted IS from About. Generally, I don't like updating unless the version is no longer working especially considering my laptop is old and can't handle many software updates. All other accounts sizes are small and all accounts are working fine. I'm just wondering if all the emails from this account are being stored somewhere. Do FF and TB portables need local versions to work? I have a local FF that opens, but without my settings. Did not check TB yet...
Unfortunately, that version of Thunderbird is so old (over 10 years out of date!) I can't really support you. It's likely it has a bug in compacting or something similar.
It's also worth noting that that version of Thunderbird is completely insecure. Someone could run arbitrary code on your machine simply by sending you a malformed email.

so compacting must be working on all others. If I do update, which version would you recommend for this old laptop: winXP (32) SP2. I'm afraid to install the newest version as my past experience proves they do not work well on old machines. Also, is it normal to have TB or FF files on local drive? I got some files that include profiles, but nothing that opens as usual profile files with bookmarks etc. I don't know what these local files are as I am not a tech person as you could easily deduce from my postings Thank you for your help - I will update to the version you recommend and see what happens.
As mentioned in the other thread, I'm unsure how modern Thunderbird will work on an unpatched XP SP2 machine. Like most software that supports XP, it specifically mentions "Windows XP SP3".
I'm also unsure if a modern Thunderbird version can even upgrade from a 10+ year old version. I'd wager the developers don't test for that.
If you'd like to try it anyway, I would highly suggest making a backup first and then upgrading to the current release of Thunderbird Portable. I'm not sure if it will work on XP SP2 and do not have access to a virtual machine running it.

Downlods fine from this site, but does not install - tried twice. I saw a page with specific versions for different systems, bu cannot find it now. Which version would be suitable for win XP sp2? I might find it elsewhere, thanks
When the download successfully opened TB, supposedly downloaded and installed on my portable drive, it was not TB portable and had none of my settings or accounts. My portable drive shows only the install package, but the actual TB portable is still 2.1.1.
I confused file versions with TB versions, so now I have 3 TB folders on the same drive: both old versions 2.0.0.4 and the new downloaded one with file version 2.1.1...Both say TB in About, not TB Portable. The last version is completely different, did not get my profile from the older version and I'd rather stick to the latest version that looks like the old one. My TB for mac is 3.1 (I think), it looks the same - is it the latest for macs? Please suggest the latest versions for both win and macs that look like my old one, thank you
