Firefox ESR 52.9.0

I that Firefox ESR here on portableapps is ver 60.xx

Never saw Firefox ESR 52.9.0 here & don't know if it was even created, but I could've missed it. Version 52.9.0 is from June 25 2018

Seeing that Firefox ESR 52 xxx is the last ESR version of Firefox that has support for Windows XP maybe it is a version that you should keep around for a while, for those that might be in need of it, and not only have version 60.xx which is of course incompatible with Windows XP

Thanks you for your answer,

Thanks you for your answer, but I didn't miss the version that you point out.

I must admit that I was a bit confused when it comes to the version that you point to. All previous version were labeled as ESR, so I could not quite understand why this one is labeled as Legacy.

The fact that the Legacy version was now downloaded from duckduckgo instead of sourceforge was also a bit confusing, though I do now see that even Firefox ESR v60 downloads from duckduckgo.

Explained in the Comment

The reason is explained in the comment. Normally, we would do ESR 60 and never release ESR 52.9.0, leaving it to end users to manually rename the directory and use the internal updater. See the link in the comment to the ESR release schedule. The only reason this exists is for users on unsupported versions of Windows like XP/Vista so they have a supported version of a major browser for a few more months and so legacy extensions have a supported location for the same timeframe. This was similarly noted in the post on ESR 60.

using firefox update option in portable app setup

I have been using Firefox portable setup since at least v25.x. In the past I have done from scratch install of Firefox portable app, and I have also used Firefox menu Help |About |"Check for Updates" to change the version of Firefox used in my portable setup. I did the latter this time to update V25.0 to Firefox ESR v52.9.0. I had to do an update+browser restart 4 times to get to Firefox ESR v52.9.0 from v25.0 and everything appears to be running as expected. I have an issue with Lastpass v4.16.2.1 but I do not think it is related to the method I used to update Firefox - I am suspect it is an add-on bug. I am also slowly revising all the out of date add-ons created by migration to v52.9.0esr and hunting for replacements for the dearly departed ones *sigh*

Has anyone had issues using Firefox portable after updating using the same method I used?

Update The Full App

You should update the full app using the standard method here: https://portableapps.com/support/portable_app#upgrading

Even better, use the platform and it will always do it for you. Rename your FirefoxPortableESR directory to FirefoxPortableLegacy52 first so that it will remain on this version.

Your FirefoxPortable.exe launcher is very out of date and the app may not work correctly. You should scan your system as Firefox 25.x is insecure and allows any site to run code on your machine. Additionally, Firefox 52 will be unsupported and insecure as well in a few weeks.
