[Closed] Fonts and icons look distorted/no anti-aliasing in Platform 15, Win 10

Something wrong with apps and interface icons in Windows 10 after update to Platform 15 — all icons and main window without anti-aliasing.

Windows 10 Home Single Language 64-bit with April 2018 Update (Version 1803) Build 17134.48
NVIDIA GeForce 397.64 WHQL Driver
Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 (20.19.15.4549)
1920×1080 · 142 ppi · 32 bit · 120 dpi

On all PCs with Windows 8.1 everything is fine (on any configurations and monitors).

Can't Reproduce

I can't reproduce this issue here. On my Dell XPS 13 running Windows 10 Home 64-bit 1803 Build 17134.48 with zoom set to 125% (aka 120dpi) the fonts look as expected on my 3200x1800 display. It's running Intel HD Graphics 5000 driver 20.19.15.4531. The icons also alpha blend correctly, though they look slightly distorted as is expected at 125% zoom. I tested on this as it's the closest approximation I have to yours.

Is there something specific non-standard on your machine you can think of that could interfere? I'm wondering why you specified it as 120dpi and 142 ppi since Windows doesn't expose either of those numbers, it just shows zoom level. Is there a driver-specific setting you changed? Have you tried it with dedicated vs internal graphics after a reboot as well to see if there is a difference?

On my laptop zoom set to 125%

On my laptop zoom set to 125% too.
142 ppi and 120 dpi — from AIDA64.
Switch to GeForce by default — no result.
By the way, Large Fonts option is inactive (blocked) in my settings. Why can it be?

P. S. I don't changed any drivers settings.

100% Zoom

Could you please try setting it to 100% zoom via the Windows control panel, rebooting, and then trying the platform again on your PC? Let me know if that gets it looking correct. Then set it to 125% zoom in Windows control panel, reboot, and check it again.

100% Zoom

Zoom 100% → Reboot → All right!
Back to zoom 125% → Reboot → All bad Sad

Compatibility mode

Icon of Platform 15 on Desktop → Properties → Compatibility → Change high DPI settings → Scale mode → By system
solves problem when I launch Platform by icon.

P.S. And after reboot (auto launch) all ok.

P.P.S. But at the same time, blurs appear in the applications being launched. It's very annoying.

I'm getting this problem too.

I'm getting this problem too. Ever since the upgrade to 15.x the icons in the menu look terrible. Low res and pixelated. Was fine beforehand

Running Windows 10 x64 (fully updated including the spring 2018 major update). 1920x1080 laptop screen, running at 125% (both listed as the recommended settings in Windows). Intel HD Graphics 4600 with latest graphics drivers.

Setting text to 100% and rebooting makes the icons look less pixelated but is too tiny to use this way. Turning back to 125% and rebooting and the problem recurs

If I right click the PortableApps application and use the compatibility settings to "Override high DPI scaling behaviour" and force scaling to be done by "System (Enhanced)" rather than by "Application" the icons look better.

Maybe a little blurry? I can't remember exactly how they looked before but I know it definitely wasn't pixelated like the first screnshot.

Not sure if this fix also causes apps to be blurry as the other poster said - I've only tested firefox which looks fine. Anyway it's not a fix that you can expect most average users to be able to follow. Too technical.

Windows Try To Fix?

I'm still unable to reproduce this using my XPS 13 laptop with Intel HD Graphics 5500 and driver 20.19.15.4835 or on my Desktop with a GTX 1060 6GB with driver 398.82. Both are running Windows 10 Build 1803. Setting it to 100, 125, 150, 200, 250 (laptop only) works without issue, though icons, of course, look a bit distorted at 125, 150, and 250.

Have you set Windows to try to automatically fix apps that look blurry (Advanced Scaling Settings)? If so, please turn that off.

Is there anything else unusual about your system you can think of that could be interfering?

As I've been unable to reproduce this and it has not occurred with others, it would seem this was a driver issue.
