Hi everybody, I have a minor but very frustrating issue with my firefox. I have to use this portable USB stick in order to digitally sign documents, and it contains a preinstalled Firefox Portable which is the one I have to use because of certificates. Every time I put the stick in, I shut down the local Firefox installation, then I start the portable one, and here is the problem: EVERY time it crashes, sometimes just the tabs (The "gah - blablabla" error), often the whole application, and sometimes even the crash reporter. After that I'm asked to start it in safe mode and everything works great. Never had an issue in my previous Win7 setup, but I recently upgraded to Win10.
I tried a firefox refresh, system checks (SFC, DISM), and nothing worked.
The same stick, on my Win7 Laptop, works without any trouble.
After refreshing my local Firefox, before making any change, I retried to start the portable version, but no changes in the outcome.
I also had to reinstall Windows 10 to address some unrelated issues, still no luck.
I was sent here from the Mozilla official support forums, so please help me! Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!
We don't currently have an agreement with anyone for custom pre-installs of Firefox Portable of anything like that. You can download the official Firefox Portable and install it elsewhere and we would support that. Anyone modifying Firefox Portable and redistributing it (outside of an internal organization like a university or company doing it to their own students or employees) without Mozilla's permissions would be doing so illegally in violation of their trademark policy.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Ok, I have taken note of that and therefore I will contact the distributor of that USB stick. FYI, is Aruba, one of the biggest IT company here in Italy.
Thank you!
EDIT: It seems that the issue is linked to the GPU drivers: I have one ATI HD5670 and an older ATI HD4600 running with legacy windows drivers (to have 3 monitors 8) ): deactivating hardware acceleration apparently solves my problem.
