Thank you

Thank you for building portable version of Tor browser. Its a huge step towards anonymity. Only (maybe known) bug is you cant run normal firefox browser along with this since both are built on same base. Looking forward for updates for this portable version since Tor browser will have security updates very often.

why?

surprised that still someone runs after Tor browser portable, since Tor browser is and ever was portable on its own, being simply modified firefox from this site.
Updates from 'second hand' are in this case not optimal, as Tor browser from Totproject.org is the only one being updated from first hand.

Con not see the advanatge to have one more version of unclear origin.

Do you think the average user

Do you think the average user would go to replace the Firefox base on the project itself, and then modify ini files so that it doesn't conflict with their original Firefox setup? I think not. If it were that simple making Opera portable would be useless. Although Opera itself isn't portable, it could be as simple as grabbing files and overwriting Chrome's files instead. But you would have to modify the ini files too. Don't forget icons, either.
For a better example: WinMD5Sum Portable.
The exe is portable itself, but why go through the hassle to bring it to PA?
It is for the sake of simplicity and better integration with the PA platform.

no need

Tor browser works for years as it is fine, we all use it and get updates from Torproject. I am using Tor browser too, the FF itself is in fact orignating from this site.
I have it on my usb device among other portable apps and get updates directly from Tor project.

No need for average user to do anything at all, except grab it from Tor project, drop it to where ever and use it. Works and always did out of the box. Updates for such rather sensitive product come directly from authors instead of third party.
So why to have some additional product?

You misread my whole comment.

You misread my whole comment.
My point was: Since consumers can use this in the PA platform, and since it is integrated with the platform, it'll be more convenient for existing PA users.
If you really think my apps are suspicious, you can always scan the pafs at virustotal.com.

did not

miss anything, but the Tor browser itself is portable and when placed in the platform it is there and integrates perfectly. Using it this way for years as many other users do.

The point is not something suspicious from the virus point of view, but Tor is very special security software. It has many frequent changes, there were times when more then one update came per day. With such very special security tool it is essential to have it absolutely at the current version published. This is done by the Tor project and hardly any third party can follow in timely manner.
Therefore it is not a best idea to have side constructs containing the Tor software. If multiple authors start producing Tor software bundles, then the clear unique origin of Tor will be mixed up and soon it will become difficult to recognize which product is compatible with what.

If Tor Browser itself is portable, why no archive version?

I know there are exceptions like DOSBox, but I always suspect apps which are supposed to be portable and yet offer no archive version.
That also makes it harder to just "throw it in a folder" since you'll never know if it may create multiple versions in Windows' "Add/Remove programs".
If it's 100% portable, why doesn't Tor Portable offer an archive version?

it is

not quite sure what exactly you are talking about, but Tor browser is delivered in archive format (it was always so). It is a selfextracting archive, but if you like you can extract it yourself with 7-zip or what ever.
Tor browser was always delivered this way to the rest of the world.

Only one distribution

Currently there is only one distribution on PA. Besides, even when placed in the PA folder, it doesn't have a proper PA folder infrastructure.
Note that I I check for updates 4-5 times a week, then compile it as fast as possible on my trash laptop.

Can you please update the app

Can you please update the app? It's been a while since the app is updated and it keeps notifying that the app hasn't updated.

Download TOR Only from Official TOR Download

https://www.torproject.org/download/

If you already have TOR 'installed' then just delete the entire TOR folder and it will all be gone.

Once you have deleted the old TOR installation just 'install' the new TOR you downloaded. Then in future it will inform you when updates are available and you can allow TOR to download the update and automatically apply it to TOR itself.

Never get TOR from any download source other than the official one.

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.
