Profile Missing

Hi all,

I've been using portable FF for quite a while now, and as of version 13, ran into a problem that prohibits me from upgrading. So I'm still stuck using version 12. Now some of the tools that I need to use at work don't work with versions that old.

I'm on Windows 7 x64, in a corporate environment, with an IT dept that doesn't really want to help me sort it out. Which is fair enough - they don't mind me running a portable version of the software, but don't support it - hence I'm here for some support.

I've done the fresh download of the latest version, run it, and I get the error message after the splash screen telling me that

"Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

I've tried copying a working profile folder structure from a local install at home that works, running firefox.exe with -P and -profilemanager switches, editing ini files, disabling addons in FF12 before running the latest version and am out of ideas. I've tried running upgraded installs of the working version of FF, and fresh downloads from PortableApps - neither works. I've tried it on fresh flash drives and temp folders on the physical hard drive. I've tried rebooting, logging on and off, and I'm out of ideas.

The other thing that is weird is that it works in other windows logins, on the same computer, and obviously it works with other logins on other computers.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

nope...

Thanks for your reply.

No that doesn't work either. I've started using Chrome instead, but the enterprise policy won't allow me to install addons, so I'm getting used to browsing with ads again.

Appdata

Have you checked for a corrupt local profile in appdata and localappdata?

Tried... no joy

I've deleted the Mozilla directories in all appdata folders, Local, LocalLow, Remote (the only one that had a Mozilla directory), and no luck.

The thing that confuses me (and the IT guy) is that it's portable - it should just be looking in the portable folder, right? not looking at folders outside that area?

Back to basics - does a clean install run?

Silly question (and sorry if you have already tried this) - does a clean install of Firefox (latest version) run?

I read your sentence - "I'm on Windows 7 x64, in a corporate environment " - and I'm wondering if there is something in the system causing a problem with Firefox Portable running.

Can you launch FF as Administrator?

Or copy FF to a different location (from a USB memory stick to a folder on the HD) and see if it will run from there?

If you are getting some help from one of the IT guys, can you test if a local install of FF will run?

Same

Having the same problem when trying to upgrade to Firefox 63, now can't run either 63 or 62.0.x without Firefox looking for profile in C: drive outside the "portable" app's folder.

Created dummy files named Mozilla in AppData folder so portable FF can't continue using external folders.

Portable FF: "Profile Missing - Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. - OK"
