Upon testing portable versions of various programs made with the portableapps platform (coming in a folder with the exe and the app and data subfolders), I've noticed I cannot run any unless they are are in the C: root folder. Program crashes instantly upon launching. What am I missing here? I suspect it has to do with the fact I try to run them from an internal drive or that I should install a "main" portableapps program which somehow cancels the whole point of not installing things and the ability to have those programs in the same location with others which use an official portable version (not a portableapps one).
Isn't it possible to simply run them from a folder of my choice i.e C:\Users\\Documents\Apps\Portable somehow?
Thanks a lot.

That's weird. I've had no issues running PA from deeply nested folders. Would be nice if there's more information as to why it's happening for you.
sure you can start single programs from their location like document folder.
Only thing you should observer that you do not try to run programs from some places where there is not general free access. This would be something like program files etc.
What you should check, is that you have rights to read and write to the folder where your apps sit.
The portable apps menu need not to be installed, however it can be. It is also not installed as all other portable apps, it is just unpacked.
