Using Wine to run PortableApps on linux

I am using Linux Mint and have installed Wine to run Windows programs. I want to use PortableApps on this machine, I haven't found one that I can use as a "native" application in Linux, and the version I have downloaded from the PortableApps website PortableApps.com_Platform-Setup_16.0.2.paf.exe is a paf loader & Wine does not like it. I think what i need is something like PortableApps.com_Platform-Setup_16.0.2.exe as mentioned in the support section in Download & Install. Where can i get it?

Wine & PAF Platform Installer

From your description, you've already got the required Platform Installer software, but it might be a bad download: Is the checksum correct? In Wine when you choose to create a new Wine.app, you just use the 'Install Software' option as you would with any other Windows software, then select and run the installer file. Make sure that you have downloaded the file to a location that Mint is 'happy' to install software from - perhaps try moving the installer file temporarily to the Mint Desktop prior to installation if you are having problems.

Wine & paf Platform installer

I have downloaded PortableApps_Platfform_Setup_16.0.2.paf.exe several times and tried to instal it in Wine with no success. in fact wine says "PortableApps.com Platform" is available, but when I try to run it I get "Error there is no Windows program configured to run that type of file." I think that this is because it is a .paf.exe file. I notice that the advice in the PortableApps website about installing the platform mentions downloading a file without the .paf e.g. PortableApps_Platfform_Setup_16.0.2.exe so I think that what will probably work is a flle like PortableApps_Platfform_Setup_16.0.2.exe but where can I get it?

Installing PortableApps in Wine on Linux/Mac

Took me exactly 5 minutes to download the Installer and create a Wine.App

- Create a new Wine Wrapper for 'PortableApps'
- Select and Run (install) the file you've already downloaded in the new Wrapper, no dependencies required.
- Select the file 'PortableAppsPlatform.exe' as the finished Wine.app launch file.
- Done and working!

Portable Apps Platform on Mac

I have just been experimenting with the Portable Apps Platform under Wine on my iMac.

I recommend you install the platform and all other portable apps in the Z: directory. This is the normal mac file system and is not hidden. All the Wine drives are hidden and as installers do not put a short cut on the screen (or anywhere else findable) you have to first make the Wine files visible and make your own alias (short cut) before you can use installed apps.

The portable apps platform working under wine also has some very annoying peculiarities - especially when it comes to listing apps for download. The apps are all listed in a seemingly random order. Apps cannot be listed in categories as this feature does not work.

The platform also has to be started twice before it stays on the screen.

Somebody really ought to look into this as it make the platform very annoying to use.
