Hi,
I have many instances/copies of Portable Firefox for testing: v52, v57, v60 and also each with their fresh, no addons, some addons, etc. instances. I don't name the folder to "AppNamePortable_Copy_2(3, etc.)" as in the manual.
Now if I click "Check for Updates", the "PortableApps.com Updater" would only show ONE row indicating that Mozilla Firefox can be updated, which leads to a confusing situation:
- If I choose "Next", would the Updater update all instances OR would the Updater update only one instance?
- If it's the latter, how could I determine what instance would be updated?
I guess at least the Updater would read the data from some settings file and update the last installed copy? However, I tried looking in the PortableApps.com folder, but couldn't find any hints in the *.ini files. Hope someone can give me some guide/explanation here.
Thanks in advance.
The updater will only attempt to update any versions that have the original folder naming.
If the list shows one, then only one has the original folder naming, and all the rest of your installs will not be touched.
Ah, right, I have one folder using its original name "FirefoxPortable". So it looks like the name is hard-coded in the Updater or is there a pattern such as a folder name ended in "Portable" would be recognized?
I.e. my current folder names are FirefoxPortable60, FirefoxPortableFresh, etc. which are not recognized.
But I wonder if Firefox60Portable, FirefoxHomePortable, etc. would be recognized by the Updater?
EDIT: Did a quick check, and it seems the Updater has the names of the apps hard-coded, i.e. Firefox60Portable is not recognized, but obviously FirefoxPortableNightly is recognized. Thanks for your info.
BTW this behavior is very much wanted, because many people do not want certain programs to be updated. Changing the name of the folder will therefore disable any automatic updates, leaving the possibility of manual updates intact.
So the aim is *not* to be recognized.
