Every time I start FF Portable 67, I get nagged that an update is available. As others have noted, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to stop this nagging. If you give in and let the auto updater update it, does the program retain its portable nature or does it become not portable anymore, writing to your system drive instead of only using the Portable folder?
I have an SSD that I am hoping to prevent from wearing out too soon, so don't want writes to my C: drive.
How you stop your Firefox Portable from giving constant 'update' messages I do not know. Hopefully someone else will comment.
On the issue if it is okay to allow Firefox's in-built installer to update your Firefox Portable see the post by Gord Caswell in this thread:

Basically, you can do so, but there are risks. In my book that would equal do not do it -- only update via official releases made by PortableApps never by Firefox's own in-built updater.
As things stand you are using quite an old version of Firefox Portable and you should really be going with the most recent version:
https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
(I never understand why people don't keep their Firefox up to date.)
Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

Let me suggest a reason...
PortableFirefox 67.0.4 was running fine, and then came the update so I opened PortableApps and it wanted to do an update of GoogleChromePortable too. The update(s) failed so badly that my system froze and when restarted neither FirefoxPortable nor GoogleChromePortable would open because firefox.exe and chrome.exe were missing. I had to uninstall both, download the latest pafs and re-install. Fortunately, I had a recent profile backup for each.
When PortableFirefox 68.0 needled me to upgrade, I took a profile backup and opened PortableApps to upgrade. Once again, the folder with Firefox.exe was empty, so back to uninstall/re-install.
PortableFirefox 68.0.1 started bugging me a couple of days ago to upgrade. This time I was more careful, I backed up the profile, closed all windows, opened PortableApps and let it update. I checked before trying to open, and once again there was no firefox.exe, and this time \Data was empty too. Uninstall, download the .paf, re-install and load my profile. Don't know if it matters but am missing Data\Settings and Data\plugins
I have no idea why these failures are occurring. If it was happening to everyone I would expect to see a thread on the problem so am assuming it is unique to my system. FWIW, upgrades on 67 were never a problem.
With three out of three failures on FirefoxPortable 68 upgrades I will be staying with 68.0.2 for a long time.
Thanks Abraxian. I will take your advice. As for my version of Firefox, it's not old, I think it's version 67 or so. And I think I posted these posts from Opera Portable, not FF. Could be mistaken.
