I'm still using Opera 12. It's just faster with the keyboard shortcuts and nicknames for the websites that I visit.
But there are some sites where the layout is broken.
I have keyboard shortcuts to automatically open the site in Firefox or Chrome, but for quick reference of sites that I don't need to specifically browse, I've discovered that K-mellon portable, as simple and lightweight and feature stripped it is, opens quickly and renders some sites pretty quickly and accurately.
So I'm considering trying other portable apps browsers for my little 1.3ghz 1gb computer.
Are there any other browsers on Portable Apps similar to K-mellon that have a small footprint, and open up pretty quickly?
Lately I've been using the Falkon browser on my thumb drive. It has a fairly small installation size on the drive, and opens up rather quickly--much more quickly than the sluggish browsers that are installed on the devices they give us at work. It is not what I'd call a full-featured browser, but for quick surfing to a few sites, it is more than sufficient. You can find it here at portableapps.com.
I just re-read your post--if you are ok with a "feature stripped" browser, falkon should more than meet your needs. I don't htink it has an extension store, there are just a few extensions that come with the installation package--including an adblocker.
Yes, that's exactly what I meant, for one time links that don't open up properly on Opera 12, I have a hotkey that will open up that broken page on a different browser, and extensions and add ons aren't needed.
Imgur is the perfect example.
