PortableApps on WinPE

Does anyone know what things might naturally break in certain PortableApps when launching from WinPE?

It seems the more simple apps work, but a lot of things like most Browsers (not all) and more complicated apps don't seem to run at all. Sometimes there's a missing DLL or some other exception, or sometimes the splash screen shows up but the app doesn't launch.

Any clues what mandatory Windows files need to be present for All PortableApps to work, which may not be present on a WinPE build?

WinPE

I suggest you start by reading some guidance on what WinPE is and what it isn't:

Hint: WinPE is not a fully functional GUI-based Windows operating system.

No reputable site or developer is going allow the the provision of guidance on how to use WinPE beyond the terms of its licence and to quote Microsoft: "Windows PE is not a general-purpose operating system. It may not be used for any purpose other than deployment and recovery. It should not be used as a thin client or an embedded operating system."

hmm, thank you, professor,

hmm, thank you, professor, for you uber useful mind-numbing rant.

I feel as if I should donate a little something to your little cause. I don't have PayPal, so I'll just offer this:

Keep your little whining to yourself, you may find another person able to tolerate your company,

That advice was well earned, my friend.

Now please refrain from injecting your corporate agenda into the world at large. Tell your masters they've been asked to put their tool away.

So, at any rate, if there are any grown ups in these forums, I was thinking perhaps PortableApps could develop a new separate program known as "UltraPortableApps"

And this Build would be only those programs which don't need External DLLs or Registry keys, etc.

Or, when searching Apps for our PortableApps, giving us a checkbox for only showing completely self-contained executables

Unlike Mjashby, most of the rest of the world has valid uses for these programs. Many of the same programs come preloaded on a variety of Low Level Tools

I actually use it on WinFE, for Forensic and Digital Investigations for Law Enforcement. Prosecution, Law Firms and the Court System.

Before Mjashby flips his lid and spasms something else onto his keyboard, I'm also a Licensed and Bonded Forensic Investigator, though I don't believe that should even matter, as there are many, many very practical and legitimate uses for many of the PortableApps, many of which exist as Portable Versions outside of PortableApps.

I like the Start Menu and Interface, and Prefer WinFE to LinuxLivCD, and am trying to make a great WinFE Build for myself.

Now, before Mjmashby starts crying again and possibly sprains something, I would also state that this "UltraPortableApps" version would also be very easy to port to a LinuxLive Distro, as all of the programs selected would be the easiest to port

I'm pretty sure Microsoft's intent was not to drive everyone over to Linux.

Its a Preinstallation Environment, an environment which exists before needing an OS to be installed, and that's precisely where we need it to work.

It's hard to beat the PortableApps Start Menu Interface, its pleasant to work with, and a great place to store tools, and far surpasses what exists in any WinPE build I've ever seen.

And whilst Jmashby may not be easily torn away from his AssaultCube & NeverBall, myself and most of the grown ups I know have legit uses for most of the apps, notwithstanding Msjashby isn't there to supervise and make sure there is no Sudoku played.

Play Nice

Please consider this your warning - PortableApps.com operates under a set of guidelines, which include both "Be Polite and Patient" and more relevant to this topic "Play Nice".

I suggest reviewing those guidelines prior to continuing posting.
Further contravention of the guidelines may result in a temporary suspension of the account responsible without further notice.

That's a great suggestion.

That's a great suggestion. For Jsmashby.

Is that where it was directed?

Maybe you can put somewhere in the guidelines something about talking down to others, is that in there? is it?

I know it's the internet, and we all like to imagine we're smarter than everyone else, but really, that's laughable.

No where is it written that you can't make a WinPE for use with PortableApps.

Maybe we can summon up a Microsoft Representative to settle this matter.

Saying things like "Hint" is the epitome of vague knowledge and general hazing, fyi, so get on that.

Unless, wait... Are you guys buddies? Is it that he's been a more active member for longer and you like him more? Are you in each other's DM's like nobody's business?

If that's case, I apologize, sincerely, I didn't mean to intrude on whaterver it is you have going here.

Consider me well warned, sir

Carry on you two.

Oh look, nevermind, I don't

Oh look, nevermind, I don't need PortableApps to not do anything to help me, afterall, luckily.

I found the website PendriveApps and it seems to be everything you're unable to be.

Cheers
