Changing Icons with Resource Hacker?

Doesn't seem to work? I have a portable version of RH (though not the portableapps version) and I am running it as an administrator. You can go through the motions of changing the exe's icon and it saves, but the icon doesn't change and both the new and backup exe's end up inoperable.

Not sure that it matters, but I am running Windows 10 LTSC.

Any suggestions?

Caching and CRCs

Windows will cache icons, so you'll only see it if you right-click and select properties after changing it. Many apps, when you change the icon, will fail to run. All of our launchers and tools are purposely designed that way, for instance, to prevent malware infections.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks for the reply! Are

Thanks for the reply! Are there any workarounds for this? I have portable versions of programs like irfanview and MPC and they work just fine. Mainly just trying to get my browser and apps like libreoffice to do it.

What about compiling source code? Can you compile progs like FF or libreoffice to be portable and change out the icons?
