I've had no problems with Microsoft accounts nearly all year and gmail accounts are fine, but Microsoft accounts keep asking for password. I've tried removing accounts and re-adding them, but still no resolution.

I have one live email account, one gmail and one O365 account in my ThunderbirdPortable and I have no problem.
Maybe try to reinstall to a fresh one? (no ThunderbirdPortable should exist where you install)

I have several Thunderbird portable installations that don't work.
What is your option for connect your outlook email account to the server?

Have both loaded configurations:
Default: "outlook.office365.com" at port "993" Connection security: "SSL/TLS". SMTP: "smtp-mail.outlook.com" port "587"
Older: "imap-mail.outlook.com" at port "993" Connection security: "SSL/TLS". SMTP: "smtp-mail.outlook.com" port "587"
