over at https://github.com/mcmilk/7-Zip-zstd a codec package is offered, expanding 7-zip functionality by adding zstandard:
You can install it in two ways:
complete setup with additions within the GUI and a modified Explorer context menu
only the codec plugin that goes to your existing 7-Zip installation (no GUI changes and no additional Hashers)
now i have been trying to get 7-zip portable running with the additional zstd.dlls, unfortunately without any luck so far.
is it possible to add these codecs to the portableapps 7-zip tool?
Download the zip from the site and read the readme. For 32-bit, place the Codecs folder in 7-ZipPortable\App\7-Zip. For 64-bit place it in 7-ZipPortable\App\7-Zip64.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
now, this is what i did already, directly in 7-ZipPortable\App\7-Zip64 or in codecs subfolder. no success.
You'd need to ask the plugin publisher as it's an unofficial addon for 7-Zip so I don't know what it's expecting.

ok, i have contacted him, let's see how this turns out.
meanwhile, can anyone recommend another win gui archiver incl zstd support?
finally got it working. it is simply not enough to use codecs.7z.
you additionally need to unpack both exe files (32,64 bit), then copy over the contents to the corresponding subfolders in the 7-zip portable app.
not sure why there is no 7zipped version including all needed files?
Thanks you. I got it to make it work too.
Portabilizing application... 14 at the moment
does this actually work for anyone?
I tried but it didn't work either
Portabilizing application... 14 at the moment
well, probably only for a 7-zip installation, not portable app?
I did the extraction only on a copy of my 7zipPortable (only the plugin)
Portabilizing application... 14 at the moment
same here, as i only have & want to 'upgrade' my portable version.
luckily i found a much easier and above all up-to-date package of modern codecs.
see http://www.tc4shell.com/en/7zip/modern7z/
integration in 7-z portable fully works without hassles.
just unpack and rename respective folders to Codecs and move them to
7-ZipPortable\App\7-Zip\
and
7-ZipPortable\App\7-Zip64\
wished this could be the default for 7-zip portable in the future.
