I installed this today on my thumb drive and it installed properly. I opened the word doc app and did a test doc and that worked fine. Then, after I closed LibreOffice it asked me if I wanted to install an update. However, it hung up halfway thru and didn't finish the update. How can I get a successful update completed?

Updater not working for LibreOffice 6.4.0
What I did was copy my created documents from the drive to my pc drive then completely uninstalled LibreOffice from my USB Drive then restarted my computer (just an extra precaution) then reinstalled the newest version of LibreOffice using the portable apps installer copied back my created documents and so far everything works as expected.

Sorry but this did work for Me but while trying to once again download and install the newest update to Libre Office the same thing happened again. I think this is an ongoing problem so just wanted to let You know my fix worked but only until a new update comes out. Im guessing this is something that is being worked on but if not then Im not sure what else to do.

Just logging in for the first time since my first post. I think I'm going to wait a while before I start using LibreOffice at all because if this suite has troubles from the get-go, then it's not worth it for me to use it. I understand that it's free, and I understand that because of this there are not hundreds of people working around the clock dedicated to doing QA testing and fixes, etc.
It's all ok, and hopefully sometime in the future our country and world will mature and evolve (as in the original Star Trek) so that we are not as focused on greed and power (capitalism-on-steroids), but that we demonstrate more caring and sharing and helping each other to be better people and citizens of the world. There, I spoke my peace.
Well actually LibreOffice has been around since about 2010 (10 years) as a non portable (Desktop Program) and it has lots of users. The portable version found on this site is the exact same program just "repackaged" as a portable app so in theory should work just as good. Ive only ever had problems with the install/update portion of the software and never actually using it and I think its a good piece of software.
What I do is have it installed both on my Windows Desktop (I believe it will work with other OS's as well but not sure) and I work on documents and save them to my USB drive. When I go to somewhere that doesnt have LibreOffice installed then I fire up my Portable LibreOffice and continue working with the same save file.
That is just how I use it......
