BOINC Portable has been released. BOINC is a distributed computing project that lets you help cutting-edge science research using your computer. It's packaged as a portable app, so you can use it on the go or on a PC without admin rights and it's in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Platform. And it's open source and completely free.

Update automatically or install from the portable app store in the PortableApps.com Platform.

Features

screenshotBOINC lets you help cutting-edge science research using your computer. BOINC downloads scientific computing jobs to your computer and runs them invisibly in the background. It's easy and safe. About 30 science projects use BOINC; examples include Einstein @ Home, IBM World Community Grid, and Rosetta @ home. These projects investigate diseases, study global warming, discover pulsars, and do many other types of scientific research.

Drive Space: Note that projects may use multiple gigabytes of data on your device while working by default. You can adjust this by selecting Options and then Computing Preferences and checking the "Use no more than XX GB of disk space" box and entering a value.

If you'd like to join the PortableApps.com team on Rosetta @ home, we're team number 19931.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

BOINC Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Platform including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Story Topic:

Comments

1. BOINC cannot determine the size and position of the work area of the screen (half hided under the Task Bar).
2. After the project selection window is displayed, it does not react to the keyboard pushing at all. Before – do not know.

I killed it with by means of the Task Manager.
The cause of the epidemic is clear, if scientists are so inept.

I set a new default of letting it pick the location, so it'll do that for new installs.

The project selection I've found sometimes needs to be closed with the X on the first run for both local and portable installs. Not sure why.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

On DL page, it is told "Note that projects may use multiple gigabytes of data on your device while working".
I've not tested yet, but there's a option "Use no more than ____ GB of disk space" under "Options" and "Computing Preferences".
(You set how many GB you want).

Rev 2 fixes an issue where the manager may not display properly on first run at lower resolutions.

1920*1080 is low resolution?
I can not trust a program that hides its window. After start the main window half hided under the Task Bar. If I try to call window menu (to select «Move»), the main window simply closes.

Bug only, not a program.
