this has been a long-term project, but finally Winamp portable launcher is ready! its set out to the PAF 0.9 layout, and is mainly based upon the firefox portable launcher for its speed.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that it is for winamp lite, but in theory should work for all of them. as smithtech (down) said, just uni-extract it or follow the instructions in the app/winamp directory.
Also, its in BETA.
Download: (launcher: 704KB winamp+launcher: 3.72MB)

Obviously this is only the launcher.
Where do you recommend we get a version of the app which works best with this launcher?
Also, is this BETA/RC ?
Thanks is advance.

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
I can't speak specifically for this launcher, but when I made mine I just downloaded winamp from their website and used Universal Extractor to extract it.

I've tried this with no success.
I used universal extractor on version 5.33 Lite. I installed the launcher. I copied all the files from the 5.33 Lite Extraction (except the Plugin directory) to the app/winamp location. I then double clicked the Winamp Portable launcher. It launches Winamp but then it won't play any MP3s.
Does it matter that I have Winamp already install on my laptop?
Thanks,
Timothy

Try copying the plugin directory, not positive but I think one of the plugins may be required.
Also make sure the winamp directory structure on the usb drive is the same as the install on your pc. Universal Extractor doesn't usually extract everything to the correct folder as it doesn't run the install script it just extracts the files.
I'm running 5.33 Pro and it works fine. I did however just copy the the directory from my PC. When I first made the launcher I did it with 5.32 or 5.31 not sure but it shouldn't really matter.

I just reinstalled 5.33 lite to my home computer. Reinstalled the launcher and copied over all the files (except winamp.ini) and it worked beautifully!
Thank you so much for the launcher....

this was tested with 5.32 lite, and it worked fine. if there is any future problems with 5.33, just revert back to 5.32 lite.

this is the right thread for this project? I would love to see the Wincue plugin made portable - Its open source http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=355935 and turns Winamp into a fully featured party jukebox. At the moment it writes to the reg key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\WinCue, which messes with my local install on one of my machines when I use it portable. I still use it with winamp 2.91 lite - The no fuss player.
Anyone know how to get it to write to a local ini?
I havent tested it with any 3-rd party plugins, because I didn't think there would be many. any way, it supports all winamp 5 skins.

Works Fine with 5.33
But I had to Copy the Plugin-Folder to the Winamp directory.
Now everything is fine, THX
I have a problem with WinAmp portable that I hope y'all can help me with:
===========
Specifically, I'd like to listen to radio feeds via the net, and the station I'm interested in is available via the "Shoutcast" plug-in.
The problem is, when I try to install the plug-in, it refuses to acknowledge the folder I have Winamp located in, so it won't let me install it.
I'm presuming that's because - as a portable app - my Winamp is not "installed", per se.
1) Any thoughts on how I can get around this situation, or am I gonna hafta buckle in and "install" (presumably the "regular" - non-portable version of) Winamp onto my system?
2) If so, can I perhaps install Winamp & the plug-in, get it all configured and working, and then uninstall it (after copying the Winamp folder onto my thumbdrive)? Would the saved version on my thumb then work, or if so, only ON the original PC?...
3) If not, what other avenues do you suggest?
4) Help!...

I got a specific shoutcast site to work by exporting it to a bookmark within an "installed" WinAmp (or maybe playlist - can't remember offhand) then copying that to the plugins\[appropriate folder]\ on my USB stick. Then fired up the portable launcher and opened it in the portable WinAmp and it works. Is working now actually.
If that doesn't help, I can go back and try to reconstruct what I did. It took about 15 minutes of fiddling with it to get it to work.
It *might* leave some non-portable entries someplace on the host machine, but I'm not too worried about that.
