Question about WinMerge Portable.
If I start it by going to PA.c > PortableApps > WinMergePortable and double-clicking WinMergePortable.exe, I can drag files or folders onto the WinMerge window and it opens the folder selection window. Also, if I have that window open, I can drag files or folders onto it to change the first, second, or third file/folder selections.
If I start it by opening the PortableApps.com Platform window and clicking WinMerge, I cannot drag files or folders onto the WinMerge window; all I get is the NO icon (circle with a diagonal bar crossing it).
Can somebody fix it so that dragging works both ways? Or explain why this is not fixable?
Thanks!
I'm able to drag folders in without issue whether launched along or from the platform.
Generally, this will only happen when you are trying to cross contexts with apps. So, if you have one process running as admin and one not, you can't drag between them. This can happen if you are using a tool to run the platform and apps within at a lower context or are running your explorer windows as admin.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
At some point I got in the habit of starting my PortableApps by right-clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator".
So I quit PortableApps, then restarted it without running as admin. Then I opened WinMerge from the PortableApps Platform window, and presto! I can drag files onto it.
I did not know about the "crossing contexts" stuff. Thank you!! Thank you very much!!
