I've been using GoogleChromePortable (multiple instances) for years now with no issues, updating regularly. The latest update to 86 is causing all of my instances to wipe all cookies pretty regularly (multiple times a day often) after restart. A bit frustrating that I lost all cookies on all instances!
Any thoughts on what is causing this?
Are you logged into Google? If not, you'll experience data loss by design in Chrome itself when its location changes or any of its files are modified (originally to prevent homepage, search engine, and new tab hijacking). This is detailed on the page. They change it to incorporate more every several versions.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
On one of the instances I am - but it just constantly logs me out of Google as well in the browser and I have to keep signing into that too. It's really weird...
Edit: And no - location of Chrome isn't changing at all, staying in the same place for all instances
You lose cookies on each launch? On each reboot? It usually only happens if not logged in when moving PCs. Do you have anything on your PC messing with it? You can usually tell by opening Options and it saying that settings were reset.

Very odd! Definitely not every launch, I can relaunch a whole bunch of times and cookies remain, not even every reboot, seems to happen a couple of times a day but there's no pattern I can figure out
I was wondering about something else messing with it too but I don't know what would mess with that specifically. Everything else remains (history, bookmarks etc.), it's just the cookies that go. And cookies in my non-portable Firefox browser profiles all remain OK
Nothing else has changed on the machine other than a Windows update to 2004 and updating the Chrome version to 86. Is there a way to reinstall 85 for testing?
Quick update... looks like this may be a Windows 2004 and Chrome bug...

Think it might be the end of the road for Chrome for me, unusuable unfortunately. Thanks MS and Google!
Sorry for some spam, fully figured it out, it IS a Microsoft bug in 2004 that affects DPAPI protected data (e.g. Chrome cookies) when you have S4U scheduled tasks in the OS (which I have 3 of - that's when my cookies kept clearing each day). Disabling those tasks has fixed this

Comment from Microsoft employee further down confirming this and apparently Microsoft are aware this is a bug and are working on fixing it
Microsoft... outstanding as always!
