[Fixed] Not-Yet-Released 78.5.1 destroys existing installation

I just downloaded the German version and found out after the installation that Thunderbird can be opened, but the application is completely empty.
Can anyone confirm this?

No Changes, Not Yet Released

There haven't been any changes to the install/upgrade process in a while now. You sure it's not corruption on your drive or a corrupted prefs.js file? Also, it's not released yet, so did you just download it from SourceForge?

Same here , but found after

Same here , but found after lot of testing that replacing the "ThunderbirdPortable.exe" with the one of 78.5.0 it works again.

Confirm the Problem

John,

I just download Thunderbird Portable 78.5.1 English GB from SourceForge -- just to see what the folks here are complaining about. And it seems there is an issue.

I did a completely fresh install. When I installed it I couldn't get it to allow me to setup a new Email account. So quit, replaced ThunderbirdPortable.exe (78.5.1) with the same file from Thunderbird Portable 78.5.0 and launched using that. Result: I was able to add an email account. So something going on there with the launcher for 78.5.1

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

P.S. 64-bit OS

Should add that I'm using OS Windows 7 Pro. SP1 64-bit, hence the launcher will, I suppose, be launching the 64-bit version of Thunderbird Portable 78.5.1

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

Maybe the 'bit-ness is involved in the issue

I tried again this time doing an install over the top of my already existing TB Portable 78.5.0. The result I got was exactly as the OP (and others) report here. The solution to the problem was to again replace the 78.5.1 launcher with the launcher from 78.5.0, which, again, solved the issue.

I have raised this on another forum and one of the posters there said he has installed TB Portable 78.5.1 on a Windows 7 SP1 32-bit system and that he experienced no issues.

So now I am thinking that perhaps the launcher isn't interacting properly with 64-bit version of TB Portable 78.5.1

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

Confirmed, Thunderbird Bug, Rebuilding

I've confirmed the issue. Thunderbird has a bug where if a TaskbarID in a format it doesn't recognize is in the registry, it'll fail to properly start. I'm rebuilding with an alternate simple TaskbarID that'll allow pinning and won't freak out TB. It's still version 78.5.1 as it has not been released but the package version is now 78.5.1.1.

Fixed in Actual Release

This is fixed in the actual release that's just been pushed out. The PackageVersion is 78.5.1.1 in appinfo.ini. The file version when you hover over the installer in Explorer is the same.
