I am on a work computer and when I go to Help and About Firefox, I cannot check for updates. It says Updates disabled by your system administrator. Why does this happen in the portable version?
Also I cannot put the PortableApps.com Platform on my PC since it is blocked by our IT department so the method above was the only way to quickly check for Firefox updates.
Any ideas as to why the portable version of Firefox says Updates disabled by your system administrator when you check for updates? Does it check a group policy in Windows?
It's likely set at the Windows level. It's in an hklm registry key, so not one you can edit without admin rights. If you use the pa.c platform, it will automatically update for you.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Is it possible that future releases of the Firefox Portable will change this so it's not dependent on policies set in Windows?
It is Firefox itself, not the portable bits we add, that respect Windows group policies.
Thanks for your help!
