Long loading times and crashes on startup

Is there anything that can be done about the sometimes 5+min long start up time of portable apps application? Also, sometimes it likes to crash and not load at all. I've tried multiple USB devices and computers and cant seem to get a stable install. I could be missing something. Been searching the forums and haven't found anything yet to solve my issue.

I have experienced this too

I have experienced something like this too. Never 5 minutes, but 30-60 seconds.

I thought perhaps it was AV scanning the many image files that get loaded. I think that was contributing, but I confirmed that there is something else more significant going on as well.

It only happens sometimes to me (maybe 1 in 5), so your system is likely a better test system because it sounds like it is happening all/most of the time for you.

Unlike your situation, it's rare I get a crash on PAP startup. Maybe 2-5% of the time.

I haven't found any solution except to be happy and grateful when it works as expected. Smile

HAHA.. I am always grateful

HAHA.. I am always grateful when it works. When I first found portable apps years ago, I never had this issue. I just recently had to redo my install because my original USB install finally died and didn't want to work for me anymore. Maybe I should just reinstall everything from scratch?

Thanks for your response.

I don't know if it will help, but It won't hurt

You're welcome!

I don't know if it will help to reinstall everything from scratch, but It won't hurt (except all the time you spend doing it).

One idea is to start by installing a few portable apps. See if the issue happens again. Then install a few more. Check again.

That way, you can perhaps determine if it is sporadic or has a relationship to the number of portable apps installed (or even specific ones).

For me, it appears to be sporadic. I have the same portable apps installed for quite a few months, and sometimes it happens, and sometimes it doesn't. That tells me it's likely some obscure timing bug or race condition. Most people don't report bugs... especially sporadic ones... so it's hard to know how many people are affected by this issue.
