Hello,
Trying to update my portable Chrome browser, as I did many times before - running GoogleChromePortable_89.0.4389.114_online.paf.exe and directing it to install into my main Chrome directory.
However, now the exe stub gets stuck right at the start of the download phase, refusing to draw in and download anything. It just displays "connecting...", and after a while shows an error message (ERROR: SendRequest Error). Same error after some more attempts.
Just to make sure that there is no firewall block on this, I tried to run the prior version 89.0.4389.90 on the same machine, and that progressed just fine. I don't have any anti-virus products.
This is a Windows 7 32 bit machine.
Has anyone else also run into this issue?
Same issue with GoogleChromePortable_90.0.4430.72_online.paf.exe
Old version 89.0.4389.90 pulls the main program from the web OK.
Also verified IE, based on old forum thread recommendations, and I was able to download Chrome from Google without any issue.
No anti-virus, totally disabled the firewall - still no go.
Looking into the expanded GoogleChromePortable_90.0.4430.72_online.paf.exe , in the App\AppInfo folder, there is a file named installer.ini.
That file directs the Chrome installer to be downloaded from the obscure Google site http://edgedl.gvt1.com
That URL is non-responding.
On the other hand, portable version 89.0.4389.90 pulls the installer from https://dl.google.com , which is good and accessible.
So I externally downloaded the latest 90.0.4430.72 from a modified URL (namely https://dl.google.com/release2/chrome/QXfLrKD3khekJ96AJ562-g_90.0.4430.7...), put it in \Chrome\App old directory on my computer, expanded it into the existing Chrome-bin and now I am all set with the new version.
Where are you located geographically? dl.google.com has been causing issues in some regions so I switched to the alternate. I just installed Chrome via the PA.c Platform in a clean Windows 7 32-bit VM without issue, downloading from edgedl.gvt1.com without issue.

Installing from Israel
Edit: I managed to download directly from edgedl.gvt1.com using wget, so then I tried again by running GoogleChromePortable_90.0.4430.72_online.paf.exe - Now it *did* pull the executable just fine. This leads me to believe that probably Google's unstable URL is to blame...
Thanks for checking this on your test system - gave me the incentive to try again.
Try the latest Dev release. I'm switching it back to dl.google.com for now as gvt1 seems to have even more issues.

I ran the dev version 91.0.4472.10 portable stub on my Win7 32 bit machine - it pulled the main installation file from dl.google.com and installed it flawlessly.
Thank you!
I switched the chrome download server to the main one for the latest dev release and rebuilt the other 3 as a rebuild package.. All should work now.
