Looking for PortableApps alternative for Linux / Ubuntu

I love PortableApps. I used it on windows to seperate cookies and identites with firefox portable. What do you recommend for Linux as I'm looking to switch to Ubuntu?

www.orbital-apps.com seems

www.orbital-apps.com seems like a PA equivalent on Linux but it was slow to load when I tried it on its own without the specific ORB launcher. Once it was open it worked fine for me. I never tried the ORB launcher which supposedly does make it faster.

Derived from Ubuntu

but not sure if it’ll run in Ubuntu. Search here for portable Firefox, Seamonkey and Chrome. https://forum.puppylinux.com/
Puppy Linux itself runs from USB and some users run Portables from here via wine. But note; wine does have its own issues.

No Registry, System Variables

Since there is no registry in Linux / Unix OS's (In form of a Data Base) things are easier.
Settings are kept in the form of files. Usually on the user folder.

So all you need is to launch the application with different System Variables (Set to the folder of application) and you'll get a basically portable application.

Debian

Debian is one of the Ubuntu alternatives as it is a freely available distribution over the internet which offers stable CD images which are specifically meant for GNOME.
