Chrome not updating

Been using two copies of Chrome portable I downloaded from this website for some time, seeing as I just can't keep my tabs usage under control, so when I need to actually get something done I just usually copy paste the portable browser to a new folder, and run a new clean session of it.

Yesterday I got a Chrome in-app notification(not an ad, the actual one in the menu) that a new version is available and unable to update. Seeing as I never had the same problem with portable Firefoxes from this website, I came to a conclusion that Chrome is probably tricky and requires the use of PA.c app to update. After installing the app some digging I managed to find out how to show the platform app where my Chromes are at, but I encountered a following issues:
1. Platform app says my Chrome (v. 91.0.4472.124) is up to date, while according to Google blog, there's been already a 92.x version back in July (discontinued now) and 93.x got released on August 31st, and got updated on September, 13th.
2. Platform app only found one copy of Chrome (the first one), and not the second one (the one I use for actually being somewhat productive). Could that be an issue of the second copy having a custom folder name? The OG Chrome, the one that got detected, is living in Google Chrome Portable folder, the second one got a different folder name.

TL;DR

1. PA.c platform says my Chrome is up to date. It really isn't.
2. PA.c platform only sees one Chrome, instead of two.

Platform vs Standalone

First, it helps to know that Chrome's built-in updater isn't like Firefox's. Chrome's can't be used portably, it must be installed.

For the platform, the GoogleChromePortable directory should be in the PortableApps directory used by the platform. You'll know because the PortableApps.com directory containing the platform will also be in that PortableApps directory. If you change the name of the directory from GoogleChromePortable, the platform will not update it.

You can manually update your second copy of Google Chrome Portable using the standalone directions. You'll need to manually type the renamed directory path: https://portableapps.com/support/portable_app#upgrading

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks for the reply. Yeah,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, both are in /PortableApps directory of the PA platform, only the main one got recognised, which is honestly expected due to folder name change for the second one, but the first one is recognised by the platform app, yet the app still tells me that it's up to date. I would gladly ignore that update for some time, because I would most likely be fine with a slightly outdated browser, but for some reason my session changes aren't saving on exiting the app, so it's quite annoying to start the browser back and miss all the new tabs/windows I opened. No questions on the second one, not being recognised due to folder name change was pretty much expected. Guess I'll manually update both of them.

Fine Here

I have two separate platform installs automatically updating to the current Google Chrome Portable without issue.

Just because one shows up in the platform doesn't mean it will be updated. It will only be updated if it is installed in a directory called GoogleChromePortable within the correct location. That location should be within the PortableApps directory created by the PA.c Platform. Usually, this is X:\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable on an external drive. It's often C:\Users\USERNAME\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable for user-specific installs.
