Actually, there are quite a

Actually, there are quite a few linux distros that are USB portable. DSL linux is only one. Best place I've found for playing with them is pendrivelinux.com. Good how-to's for setup and even better, some of them come with at QEMU implementation to allow you to run them inside a Windows environment.

yabbut...

Yeah, but I read just the other day from their own website that QEMU for Windows is only in alpha stage.

Have you tried it?
If so, does it seem to work okay DESPITE being alpha-quality?...

QEMU

I tried running DamnSmallLinux inside QEMU on Windows XP.
But as I said I didn't do much. I only run it a about 5 times.

The questions were:

1) "Have you run it under Windows?"
>>Asked & answered; thanks!

and

2) "If so, how did it work?"
>> You said " 'I' didn't do much".
Okay, but I'm looking to find out it the "much" you didn't do went smoothly or not. Any bugs, lockups, BSODs, lost data, etc., or not?
What say ye, Sir Simeon?...

Sorry

2 years ago, I used it about 3 times but couldn't figure out how to access the data on my harddrive and so I stopped using it. I have never tried it again so my experience is kinda outdated.
Hope this clarifies it and sorry for not being precise before.

Well I have already posted

Well I have already posted it elsewhere in this forum:

Try out Qemu-Puppy! That works flawless for me. It is real fun and easy to handle!

Just unpack the what you can download here

http://www.erikveen.dds.nl/qemupuppy/index.html

to your harddisk or USB-stick. Start it under Windows (or Linux) with the .exe(s) as described.

If you put it to your USB-sticks root directory you may even use it to boot your PC.

Could not be easier!

I Also Posted

Quite a few weeks ago I made a posting about a portable OS refering to QEMU running under windows portably. I use it and I rather like it. Haven't gotten it to access my HDD but it's still a portable linux that works in Windows:

Qemu for me

DSL linux, qemu didn't work that great, but the miniSlax came up without hitch. Haven't really played that much with them cause if I'm already in a windows environment, running linux just takes a hit in performance. More, I prefer using the pen drive linux for doing file recovery on someone's comp that refuses to boot into Windows anymore.
