[Fixed] .Net error when launching any app on un-updated Windows 7 and 8.0

Hi,
Due to the dependency of .NET, as of version 21, I can not start any apps on my Windows 8 system.

I get an error message saying I need to download a .NET version. When I check my system with dotNETInspectorPortable, it indicates 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 client, 4.0 full and 4.5 as installed. Still, it is not enough for the launcher to start an app. When I start any portable app directly by double clicking on its respective portable exe, it will start without any problem. So it is just the PortableApp launcher (menu) that is unable to launch the app. There was not any problem before version 21.

Also, I do not want to upgrade to windows 8.1 - which is the instruction on the .NET help page. I would like to use the PA platform just as in the past 10 years. Sorry for sounding a bit annoyed, but I thought it is just one company that pushes me to upgrade my Windows, but it seems now there's another one.

Which App?

Which specific app? The vast majority of apps have no .NET requirement and will not prompt. There was a bug in Platform 21.2 that caused it to not recognize that .NET 4 was installed. Platform 21.2.1 fixes that issue. Are you using the latest update?

If that's not the issue, please include the complete details requested (32 or 64-bit, full install path, etc).

As an aside, you should consider updating to 8.1. Windows 8.0 is extremely insecure and has multiple remote exploit vulnerabilities. Windows 8.0 stopped receiving security patches way back in January 2016. For comparison, Windows 7 received security patches through 2020. Windows 8.1 will receive them through January 2023.

All the Apps. There is not

All the Apps. There is not one (out of ~30) App that I can start.

Yes, I'm using 21.2.1 the latest update. Updater works without any problem.

What complete details would you like? Where is it described?
My system is Windows 8 (Version 6.2, Build 9200, 64-bit edition)
PA.com about gui indicates .NET Framework: 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.6 / .NET Core: - / .NET: -
Install path is: C:\Users\fures\Documents\Portable Apps

Thanks for your fast response and support.

Details, Example Apps

When you create a new forum topic, it says if you've found a bug to "include system details (OS version, 32 vs 64-bit, install path, new vs upgrade, etc)." at the top of the page. That way I can try to reproduce the problem.

Can you give me two specific examples of the apps that are failing to start that we've officially released and the exact error message you see for each, please? I'll setup my Windows 8 VM with the same setup and see what's up.

My Apps are e.g.:

My Apps are e.g.:
Q-Dir, qBittorrent, Autoruns, Revo Uninstaller, FileZilla.

The error message is:
This application requires .NET [Windows 8.1] installed on the local PC to run. Installation requires administrative rights and may require a reboot of the PC. Would you like to download and install it now?

Confirmed

I can confirm this issue on Windows 8.0 with Q-Dir. I'm looking into the cause and a fix now.

UPDATE: The issue is specific to Windows 8.0 not upgraded to 8.1 and Windows 7.0 when Platform Update for Windows 7 is not installed. That's likely why it hasn't been reported previously.

UPDATE2: I found the errant code and implemented a fix. It works on Windows 8.0 and 7.0 without the Update. Testing it across all supported operating systems. I should be able to push out an update today.
