It used to be that I could update my portable apps with my VPN tuned on.
Now it stops in the middle of a download indicating a "proxy error", probably due to the VPN being turned on. I turn the VPN off and it updates normally.
Why should I have to turn my VPN off now? Don't you all respect privacy, anymore?

We've made two changes so far this year. The first was to switch from http by default to https by default for downloads along with using Let's Encrypt for downloads instead of an older paid certificate. The second is to switch to a new download server on a new host due to costs. It's possible your VPN has issues with https. Or that your VPN is slow enough to cause issues with the new server which is using the default timeout, etc settings. How long do your downloads take and at what speed? What OS are you using? What VPN are you using? What apps aren't downloading?
It's working without issue in my testing on an up to date Windows 10 64-bit machine with NordVPN and kill switch on (blocks all non-VPN traffic). I was able to run the platform, have it automatically update to a new version, browse the app store, and download/install 3 large apps from 3 separate servers (Apache OpenOffice from SourceForge, Foxit Reader from our download server, LibreOffice from The Document Foundation's servers).
Please keep passive agressive absurdities out of the forums.

A lot of sites now block VPNs and I'm a little pissed by that. Glad to hear that's not the case here. Thanks
that prevents me from going to my favorite sites when that site blocks the ip where I live. quite annoying!
