Chrome Portable error cannot open its Profile

Please help me. I set up profiles and important data for each Google Chrome Portable.

But today when I reopen them, it just reopens the default Chrome Portable (i.e. empty Chrome with no data).

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1?ui=2&ik=dac1a19f92&attid=0.3&permmsgid=...

As shown in the picture, it says that Profile Path is C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default. This is wrong, the path should be in drive D:\LamAcc\001 - theendisnear1998@gmail.com\Data\profile\Default, right?

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1?ui=2&ik=dac1a19f92&attid=0.1&permmsgid=...

I tried another Chrome Portable folder, but the result is the same

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1?ui=2&ik=dac1a19f92&attid=0.2&permmsgid=...

All the remaining profiles are displayed in the same way.

I mean Profile Path has to get data on drive D (drive I saved data from before), but why does it show C drive (drive running operating system, not saving old data)?

How can I access the Data data in each Chrome Portable as before?

Please help me, I will be very grateful if I can access my old saved data. Because it is quite important to me. Hope you can help me. Thanks very much.

Looking forward to your feedback

Moved without Signing In?

Did you move Google Chrome Portable without signing into Google? If so, you'll lose most of your settings. This is a purposeful limitation within Google Chrome itself implemented by the publisher. There is a warning about this on the Google Chrome Portable homepage as well as within the license you agree to as you install:

Please note that you MUST sign into Google Chrome with your associated Google account in order to have a fully functional browser when used portably. Unlike other browsers, some components of Google Chrome are locked to a given PC and will be lost if you move from PC to PC including extensions, extension settings and data, homepage and search settings, etc. This is by design of the Google Chrome team.

Passwords are not portable by default but can be made portable using a configuration option within the launcher's INI file. They may be portable while signed into Google.

Certificates and Chrome apps installed outside the browser are not portable and are installed on the local machine.

By installing, you are agreeing to the current Google Terms of Service: https://policies.google.com/terms

and Chrome and Chrome OS Additional Terms of Service: https://www.google.com/chrome/terms/

Portions of Google Chrome Portable utilize SQLite3. The license is available here: https://www.sqlite.org/copyright.html

I'm using a 500GB hard drive

I'm using a 500GB hard drive to store these profiles. A few days ago I upgraded to a 2TB hard drive, and copied the data from this 500GB drive over. And this is where the error comes in.

Is there any way to get the data back? The data that saves my graduate thesis, if lost it. I'm done.

It takes a long time to regenerate. Please let me know how to restore, I will donate some to you and very grateful to you.

Old Drive? Change PCs?

Do you still have the app and all data on your old 500GB drive? If so, you should be able to still run it and have all your data there. If you move PCs, Chrome will reset certain parts of your profile, though. Make a backup of the whole GoogleChromePortable directory before starting it just to be safe, though.

Did you ever sign into Google Chrome with your Google account? If so, it should have synced everything to Google and you should be able to just log in again.

Where is your graduate thesis? Google Docs?

I tried upgrading Chrome

I tried upgrading Chrome Portable by deleting the "App" folder and replacing them with a newer "App" folder. But after upgrading "App", it lost all data and only shows Chrome Local.

Upgrading

To upgrade an app, this process should be used: https://portableapps.com/support/portable_app#upgrading

But what I'm asking is if you still have the old working copy on your old 500GB drive. If so, back it up before doing anything at all, then try just running it as is.

Please also answer the rest of the questions... like where is your graduate thesis? Google Docs? If so, it's still only like it always would be.

I get a "malicious file"

I get a "malicious file" message when I download Chrome Portable

When I install and open it up, it doesn't just show a white cavity and hangs forever.

Why is this? Please don't install malware in the software, okay? I beg you not to do that, devs team. I only use your software for learning

About the documents I have kept on each Chrome Portable Folder, it includes a few Words, Excel, Powerpoint files, some notes, some videos. Please save my life.

False Positive

There has been a false positive in Google Safe Browsing with Google Chrome Portable for the past week.
https://portableapps.com/news/2022-07-23--google-safe-browsing-incorrect...
https://portableapps.com/news/2022-07-28--downloads-from-portableapps.co...

I rebuilt the files without changing any internal files (since it is clean) and it now goes through. You may need to refresh the Google Chrome Portable page to ensure it shows as "Repacked" within the Download button.

Where did you save the files for your thesis. Again, if it is Google Docs/Drive, they're just in your online Google account. You can login with any browser to access them. Is that where you put it all?

I have set up test data for 1

I have set up test data for 1 profile folder. It was successful.
https://ibb.co/DWrVQM9

Then I waited for about 5 minutes, closed it and opened it up again. All data is also lost. Instead, it shows the profile of the local chrome data.

I downloaded the latest version of Chrome Portable here: https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/google_chrome_portable

Please read through, and help me troubleshoot this issue. I would be very grateful if you could help me.

Open Again

How did you run it the second time? Did you run GoogleChromePortable.exe directly?

And again, how did you store your files for your thesis?

How to send you a screen

How to send you a screen capture video of operations? I've tried all closing and reopening, running with admin rights. It only opens Chrome Local - the path to the C drive, where I don't save anything.

My documents are stored in the "Data" folder. I've tried accessing Google Drive, but can't open it. It asks to download, and even when I download. I still can not open. Reopening the "Data" data in the Google Chrome Portable folder is the only way.

Again

Once again, how are you starting Google Chrome Portable? Are you running GoogleChromePortable.exe within Windows Explorer or similar? Please answer each question I am asking as I ask them. I'm asking them to help you troubleshoot. Ignoring questions and having me repeat them multiple times will make this take longer.

Remember, DO NOT pin it to the taskbar or start menu as it will start in local mode.

Yes, I open it in window

Yes, I open it in window explorer. In order, I open the D drive, in the D drive there is a folder LamAcc, where the Portable folders are saved, the sample path is like D:\LamAcc\001 - theendisnear1998@gmail.com. I open by right clicking and selecting Open.

Run Directly vs Not

The one with the correct path was started by running GoogleChromePortable.exe. You can see the correct command line path being passed in. The one with the incorrect path was started by running chrome.exe directly.

I just found the answer. My

I just found the answer. My computer was infected with a virus in the Chrome Portable folders. That's why it can't get the profile, and I can't delete Chrome and reinstall it.

I have reset my whole machine, and tried to access each profile, but it can't get the profile after I reinstall the OS.

Is there any way to restore the data as before reinstalling the operating system?

Locked to the OS, Where Did You Save (4th ask)

As mentioned above, your Google Chrome data is locked to a given OS. This applies to both local and portable installs of Chrome. This is why you must log into Google and sync your data. And why the warning about this is at the top of the license file as you install.

I'm going to try asking this for a 4th time now. Where did you save your thesis files? Are they in Google Drive/Google Docs? If so, then they're still online and you need to log in to your Google account to access them and then go to https://drive.google.com/

If not, how did you store your thesis stuff? PLEASE answer this question so we can help you.

Never Synced?

So you never logged into Google Chrome and synced anything?

As stated, without doing this, Google Chrome will reset itself when moved/copied to another PC. Fully wiping and reinstalling Windows (as opposed to upgrading) may trigger this behavior as well. This applies to both local and portable Chrome.

If you have a backup of your previous Windows install and a backup of Google Chrome Portable on that specific drive than you can roll back to, that would allow you to still access it. You need both your Windows install that you created all the content in as well as a backup of Google Chrome Portable before it reset itself. This must be run on the same drive letter as before.

That's not possible, I've

That's not possible, I've completely removed the old OS, and haven't synced to gmail in the past.

By the way, I want to ask why are there viruses in the Chrome Portable folders?

Please think of another way to help me

Infected, Manually look through data

If there are viruses detected in the Chrome Portable folders, then whatever virus infected your machine infected your apps as well. I would suggest using your antivirus to attempt to clean things up.

Unfortunately, Google Chrome locks some of its settings to a given PC/User/Windows installation. As such, each settings file and extension data file is hashed to ensure it is unmodified. The hash uses the Windows user's key. Without it, the data may be there, but Chrome will refuse to open it and reset it at launch. This is why the first line of the license as you install says: "Please note that you MUST sign into Google Chrome with your associated Google account in order to have a fully functional browser when used portably. Unlike other browsers, some components of Google Chrome are locked to a given PC and will be lost if you move from PC to PC including extensions, extension settings and data, homepage and search settings, etc. This is by design of the Google Chrome team."

You're only option at this point would be to try to recover the data from each extension within the profile folder yourself. I don't know what extensions you used to store files within Chrome without syncing them to the cloud or how they store that data, but you could try exploring into the folders and opening some files with a text editor and with a SQLite database browser (both of which are in our app directory).

There is no other way I'm aware of to get back your data because your old Windows install and keys are gone at this point. This is why the warning on Google Chrome Portable exists. Note that a local install of Chrome works the same way and has no such warning for some reason.

If you share what files you store and in what extensions, someone here may have some familiarity with them.

OK I get it, the work I

OK I get it, the work I prepared within 2 months, now completely lost. And now I only have a week to redo it. My life is done.

I thought that just keeping the "Data" folder in each Chrome Portable folder would be able to restore all the data (extensions, bookmars, cookies, ..., some important cryptography related to my major) I was too foolish to think like that.

Details

If you can provide the details of what you stored and what extensions, someone may be able to assist you.

As for the technical issue, you should speak to your advisor immediately and let them know that a virus infection corrupted your data. Save any related notes you had from the infection to show as well.

LOST ALL !!!

After reinstalling the operating system, I noticed that only the history in the Chrome Portables was saved. The rest, cookies, extensions, logged in gmail data, have been lost.

And this is bad for me. Please show me how to recover them, and please don't install malicious code in Portable, okay?

I still have the "Data" folder in my Portable folders, is there a way to get the rest of the information (cookies, extensions, logged in gmail data) in it?
