Libreoffice 7.4.0 can't start

Hi, I have updated LibreOffice to 7.4.0, since then the app starts, shows the initial banner and then closes without any error message.

If I move the Libreoffice folder, for example, to the Desktop it starts without problems.

I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but it doesn't change anything...

Any suggestions?

LibreOffice Fresh 7.4.1 Available Soon

John T. Haller has now packed LibreOffice Fresh 7.4.1 and sent it to the publisher, The Document Foundation. It should be available very soon (next couple of days). Once it is available try that and see if it functions okay.

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

Another Thought

Sometimes anomalous problems happen because there is some issue with the LibreOffice profile. So try the following (you will need to adjust the path to suit what you have on your system):

1) Shut down LibreOffice.
2) In your folder E:\PORTABLES\LibreOfficePortable\Data\settings look for the folder titled user
3) Rename that folder to user old
4) Try launching LibreOffice — LibreOffice will create an entirely new profile — and see if the issue got solved.
5) If the issue did get solved then there is some issue with your original profile.
6) If the issue did not get solved then there would be no issue with your original profile. So, in that case, shut down LibreOffice again, delete the newly newly created profile folder ("user") and rename your "user old" profile back to "user".

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

LibreOffice Fresh 7.4.1 is Published Now

You can get a download of LibreOffice Fresh 7.4.1 now. https://portableapps.com/apps/office/libreoffice_portable

Be aware that if you overwrite your install of a 7.4.0 then your profile will be retained (if that is the cause of the issue it may remain once you have 7.4.1 'installed').

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

Same here!

Firstly, it's looks like a LibreOffice's issue and not related to the portablelization's process!

Generally, I have minor issues.. Sometimes I need to move its whole folder and run the main .exe, before to restore it to its original place.
Now, it crashes when upgrading (old installation) from 7.3.5 → 7.4.0 (or 7.4.1).
It's certainly related to some extensions or personalizations. Nothing really serious, I just need to reconfigure a fresh installation Sad

PS DO NOT delete your old 'User' folder, just move or rename it. You may need some old templates, etc.

I upgraded to 7 but the

I upgraded to 7 but the problem remains. The path where it is located is the following: C:\Users\acquisti\Desktop\PortableApp\PortableAppPlatform\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable.

I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Libreoffice but nothing has changed.

If I move the LibreOfficePortable folder to the Desktop everything works perfectly

Suggestion?

I confirm that the problem is

I confirm that the problem is in the length of the path, in fact if I temporarily rename the folder, for example, LOP, libreoffice launched manually starts correctly.

I moved the PortableAppPlatform folder directly to the root of the disk and now everything works perfectly

Ter

I re-reconfirm my statement.
I've moved (to D:\LibreOfficePortable) a restored version of a well working LO 7.3.5 → Upgraded to LO 7.4.1 → It Crashes!

Thanks!

Thank you, but I just wanted to emphasize, that it does not work in some cases.

PS. Uninstalling LO isn't the best choice. Making backups (Data folder) before every update, replacing/removing some configuration files, etc. is much better!

EUREKA!

Looks like I've found the reason of the crash, at least in my case!
LibreOffice 7.4.x (fresh installation) crashes when the experimental features are enabled ↓↓

Settings → LibreOffice → Advanced → Enable experimental features (may be unstable).

Windows 7 x64.

Libreoffice 7.4.0 can't start

I have had this problem running LibreOffice 7.3.0 under Windows 7, 64 bit, and have given up allowing the automatic updater to update it. I have made a significant number of customisations to suit my needs. These include custom Keyboard shortcuts and toolbar buttons invoking small macros designed to speed up mostly simple but repetitive tasks. Some of these macros were created using the macro recorder function available when experimental features are enabled. I haven't tried disabling it yet and may not do so as version 7.3.0 does all I need and there are no annoying bugs that affect me. The customisations take quite some time and effort to rebuild and I don't wish to go through it again for no significant benefit.

The ironic thing here is that I have also had a problem with the automatic updater, as described in the thread "PortableApps Updater problems..." which, since a platform update near the end of 2022, has failed to successfully download and install any updates except LibreOffice. Shrug....

update!

Looks like they have fixed it in 7.5.x. Just try it or wait for 7.6.x, coming in a few weeks.
