Portable Minecraft

I can make a portable Minecraft launcher.
It can launch your Minecraft game straight from your flash drive.

I can teach you how to make it, right here on this spot.

*Note that this is for Microsoft Windows, not Mac!*

Make a new folder. Rename it anything you want.

On the inside of the new folder, make two more folders.
One should be called "bin", and the other called "data".
Obviously, remove the quotation marks.

Then make a new .txt file.
Open the .txt file and type this in:

SET APPDATA=%CD%\data
bin\minecraft.exe

After that, go to File, then click Save As (important!)

Rename it anything you want - just make sure you have ".bat" on the end of it.
Like always, don't include the quotation marks.

Now get your Minecraft.exe file and place it in the "bin" folder you made last time.

Then collect your ".minecraft" folder and copy it to the "data" folder you also made earlier.

That's it!
You should launch the .bat file and it should launch.
This is also a good way to carry your worlds around with you.

Any questions?

Mine Craft Portable Java

Can I include a line in the batch file to change the default java run time environment to portable apps? Are any other such possible lines for portable apps that may be helpful? Please reply with full list you know of.

Minecraft portable files available here!

I Have put together the dictionaries required to run minecraft portably. No installation is required besides extracting the root folder wherever you want it to run.

Here is the link:
Link removed - Mod GC: Minecraft's license does not permit repackaging

Enjoy playing minecraft off your usb stick or separate from your original installation.
Personally, I use this as my primary launcher.

Your link is removed. Why? How? Can you display it some other way like directions in the forum?

Minecraft redistribution not permitted

As stated above, Minecraft's license does not permit redistribution. See One Major Rule in the EULA.

Note that this does not mean that a launcher can't be made and provided, but it can't include the game's files.

This is not to say we, meaning PortableApps.com, may not at some point seek permission to redistribute the game legally; nor that any user here may attempt to do so themselves.

If a user chooses to do so, and is successful, we must receive confirmation of permission being provided, either by copying the relevant parts of an email giving permission in a post here, or by forwarding the email to us.

I have found a loophole that

I have found a loophole that has been OK'd!!!
Yes while we CAN NOT repackage the Minecraft executable...

We CAN create a system that will obtain the required files from Mojang themselves (ie download the executable etc)

Since we are NOT repackaging the software but simply creating a portable installer that OBTAINS the copy, we no longer have to worry about infringing on their rights.

This method HAS BEEN approved directly by mojang themselves.

SOOOO that being said... who is willing to work with me on creating the necessary portable system to do this?

Creating Portable Apps Minecraft

Since I started the topic, aced my Java course, it's summer, and we can officially work on the last platform update before Minecraft was bought by our real world "You Know Who"-Microsoft=Voldemort ;), and I have the files and a batch file I will be happy to help. The only thing I need to know is how to work with the PortableApps Platform specifically and to tie it directly to PortableApps Java run-time environment.

Minecraft Portable

Have you asked the development team if they could make a portable version of the game like they have made a portable version of Google Chrome and Skype?

RE: Minecraft Portable

Not only are there already several flavours of PAF launchers for Minecraft, but there is already an official one in the works (last that I heard anyway).

The main reason that there isn't yet an official version is that Java apps aren't officially supported. The PortableApps.com Launcher doesn't detect jPortable64 yet, unless a developer patches the copy of PAL that they use, like I did for my "flavour" of Portable Minecraft (Portable has to be the first word for legal reasons). I have a plugin installer that applies an unofficial patch to PAL for this purpose, as it is highly recommended to use 64-Bit Java when running Minecraft (not so much for vanilla, but more for modded Minecraft as it needs more memory depending on how many mods are installed)

John will be able to clarify the reasons more accurately though, this is just what I know at the moment.

Coding Java is probably not

Coding Java is probably not the best thing I'm am good at, however it is one thing I can do. Time though. Usually when someone wants to use their Portable Apps they want them to work and not have to do this elaborate setup.

Reversing the polarity usually works.

RE: Try Minecraft .JAR

Need to do more than that for Minecraft to be properly portable. There are already several better ways available with a search (including as linked to above your comment)

I think that making something

I think that making something like MultiMC as a portable app would work better here.

No questions, but just a note

No questions, but just a note for users: modifying Minecraft files can potentially cause issues or corrupt the game if not done correctly. It is always recommended to backup game files before making any changes and to be cautious when following instructions from external sources.
