When I try to install the helper on MacOS Ventura 13.1.1 I get an error saying it can't write to a weird directory called prefix\Documents where the prefix is garbage - any idea why and what the fix is? I can't see how to attach a screenshot to help.

Are you able to open the DMG and see the app within it? And then you drag it from there into your standard Documents directory open in Finder, right? You can post a screenshot by using any image hosting service (example: imgur) and then linking to it.

I opened the DMG no problem and copied the file to my Documents directory, ran the provided xattr command to fix the security issue and then opened the app to do the install when I got the issue here https://imgur.com/a3dHol1
Did you say yes when it prompted you to allow access to your Documents directory? Does your macOS username have non-ASCII characters by any chance?

It didn't ask for access to the documents folder at all and checking the security settings it isn't listed. I also do not use non-ASCII characters anywhere.
Is anything written to your Documents directory in macOS? If you select ignore this and similar errors for for the next 3 desktop.ini files, does installation of the platform then proceed?
I believe it should prompt to access the Documents directory on first alteration. At least it did in testing on my MacBook Air M1 with the latest Ventura.

That's very strange. Please try right-clicking on the PortableAppsMacHelper and select Show Package Contents. Double click Wineskin. Click the Advanced button. Select the Tools tab. Click Config Utility. Select the Desktop Integration tab. At the bottom, it should show Folders and things like Documents should show as Links to: /Users/YourUserName/Documents. Is that all showing correctly? After you can close the windows one by one.

This should be fixed in PA.c macOS Helper 1.1 which I just posted. It seems the version of Wine I was using has a bug that sometimes causes the path mappings to fail as you saw. I switched to another version and confirmed that the issue was not occurring on an account with the same name as yours also on Ventura. This version does have some minor issues (green text in context menus) but it should otherwise be working much better.

Now that I have the PortableApps.com platform on my MacBook, how do I transfer it to my flash drive to use it from there? And, when I transfer it to the flash drive, can I uninstall it from my MacBook?

I have the same problem, and in Wine Config. it is linked to /user/myusername/desktop, NOT /user/myusername/documents. I don't have that image on the desktop; it is in Documents.
