Hello, I am new to the tec stuff. I have just bought a dell D600 laptop from a freind. It is 2GHz, has two 256mb cards in it. One USB, Wireless card, CD writer, 20G memory, programs loaded and a one hour battery. I gave him £200. Is it possible to take one of the 256mb cards out and put 512mb in it so it will become 750mb. If so how much will it cost and will it make a difference in the speed.

I am from the U.S. and here you could get a 512 MB RAM card from anywhere from $50-$150. You also need to find out what the max RAM the notebook can hold & you need to find out how many card slots it has. after you purchace the memory installing it can be tricky. Depending on the OS 512 MB of RAM can make a big diffrence in speed.
Thanks for your advice. The computer has two card slots. I was told it was just a case of sliding one of the 256mb cards out and slipping in a 512mb into one of the slots. Thus becoming 750mb. Your message makes it sound a bit more than that, why?
I wanted to make sure that the laptop was able to accept the extra card.
Much appriciated. Great help, thanks for taking the time.
