KeePass Portable 1.06 Pre-Release (Testers Needed)

I've just posted a pre-release test version of KeePass Portable. KeePass is a free, open source, easy-to-use password manager. It's mostly portable by default but I added a launcher to handle remembering your last used paths and safes. This makes it easier for most folks that use only one password store as it will come up with it as soon as you start KeePass Portable if you set it to in the Options window. And, it's pacakaged in PortableApps.com Format, so it'll integrate with the PortableApps.com Menu/Suite.

Please give it a try and post any feedback:
Download KeePass Portable 1.06 Pre-Release 1 (about 1MB download / 1MB installed)

Thats great*!*

I use Keepass and even thought about making a Launcher for it but I found it too complicated for me...Ill try it right away.
Thanks, John.

EDIT
I tried it and its amazingly fast.
Thanks.

Thanks

I'll give it a try and let you know how it works out. BTW, is that link you have supposed to be a direct download?

Is now

I had just linked to the project section, but now that you mention it, folks are probably expecting it to direct download... so now it is.

Wow.

That was a quick download and extraction, didn't even notice it was done. Smile Anyways, thanks for the great program John, I've been using KeePass for about a month now, and a PortableApps Version is just great. Your copy's been working fine so far, but of course, I'll let you know if I run into any errors.

Hmm...

I've never had a problem with file path and changing the drive letter when using it as a portable- is there something more to it I'm missing? But i love keepass and I'll use this version simply because the cool portable apps splash screen. Its an excellent program to recommend.

So far...

...so good. I am comparing it to PasswordSafe right now. I like KeePass better so far. It's prettier and more complete.

What's the Difference

What's the difference between regular KeePass & KeePass Portable?

Few things
  1. KeePass Portable automatically installs into the PortableApps.com Menu/Suite
  2. KeePass Portable keeps its settings in the KeePassPortable\Data directory so it can be automatically backed up by PortableApps.com Backup along with all your other app data.
  3. KeePass Portable maintains your last used directory and last opened database even as you change PCs. So, if you only use one database, you can set it to auto-open when you run KeePass and it will immediately open it and prompt you for the password. Regular KeePass will only do this if the PC you move to happens to assign the same drive letter. (If you're curious how to do this, head to Tools - Options - Advanced and then check off "Automatically open last used database on startup" in the Start and Exit section. I find it very handy.)

Excellent addition

I have used KeePass on USB drives for years, finding it to me *mostly* portable anyway, but having it as part of the suite is a welcome move forwards.

I have not found any issues so far in general use, though I tend not to use KP's auto-complete features (so I wouldn't know if any glitches were usual or unique to KPP).

Thanks for this one John, I still remember your early self-hosted Portable Firefox days - keep up the good work and the world will be a better place. Or something.

Smile

Great!!

I did not see any bugs. I (from what I saw) think it is ready for a release. Keep the good ideas going, John!
