Program: Espanso
License: Open Source/GPL-3
Description: A text-expander, which replaces commonly-used text phrases with longer versions, to save time in typing, and/or to allow for typing things that would be rather complicated (without a specialized keyboard), like emoji or currency symbols for not-your-current-locale. Frequently for mobile platforms, this is built into the default keyboard, but (to my knowledge) requires software on all major personal computer OSes. Also allows for scripting and replacing text with dynamic values, like current time or date.
Website: https://www.espanso.org
Other: Has a portable version already, and runs in the background similar to Ditto, but providing different functionality. I searched through available PortableApps.com directory and did not find a text-expander similar to Espanso. Espanso is the first FOSS option I found, and seems to work great. However, if there are other text-expanders that are out there and would work better with the PortableApps.com format, I would be willing to switch to that.
Mahalo to the team here at PortableApps.com/Rare Ideas. Super useful software, and you make it very easy to recommend to my non-tech-savvy friends/coworkers as a "walled garden" of trustworthy software.
Made tests it in my antediluvian Win 7 x64 machine. Of course using VxKex to force it to run! The Program runs but dosen't work like expected.
The closest app out here is Dicom.
