The path to Notepad++ may not be compatible with other programs or systems

The "++" in the path has been replaced to a space, but the rest of the settings, including the configuration in the ini file, were not adjusted, making the whole software unusable. If you force open the program in Explorer, it will cause the program to read the configuration file incorrectly, resulting in data loss.

Latest & Fresh for testing

Generally, only the latest releases (and reproducible bugs) are supported.
I'm updating N++ before 8.7.1 without issues. It looks like related to your installation.

Scan Drive

I'd suggest scanning the drive. There's nothing in the installer that should affect the drive slashes. Does the whited out version of the path include non-ASCII characters?

Only English, all are ASCII

Only English, all are ASCII characters.
It just deletes all the "++".

OneDrive

Does this happen if you use it outside of OneDrive? It could have an issue with ++ and sync. There's nothing in the installer that would cause this. I've noticed some weirdness with other systems/apps and the ++ so was debating swapping it to NotepadPlusPlusPortable

Too long

NotepadPlusPlusPortable is too long for the path, perhaps it would be better to use the naming convention of other files within the program: NPP = NotepadPlusPlus

How So?

How is it too long? Does Notepad++ itself not like it?

system/app limit

What I meant was that using such long names could easily exceed the system's path length limit for various other reasons.
If you take a close look at Notepad++'s own file naming, you'll see that there are a lot of files that start with NPP.

Is It OneDrive?

Did you figure out if it is OneDrive removing the plus symbols? Did you try installing temporarily to another location?

I'll need to rename the Notepad++.exe itself if that is the case.

I'm not worried about path length for Notepad++ Portable as it doesn't have anything deeply nested. 6 characters (PlusPlus vs pp) won't really affect it. I'd only use PlusPlus in the actual container directory and likely use pp inside.
