Hi, I'm not sure if this has been requested before, but I'm new and I couldn't find it on the search.
Program: Lazarus
License: Open Source/GPL
Website: Home: http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/ Download: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89339
Other: The size is 43543907 bytes if that helps. And here's a description (if you didn't know....(you should)) CLICKY CLICK!
Here's a thought:
a DESCRIPTOR of the proggy!!!...
"I don't hate cats...as long as they stay on the freeway, where they belong."
- Brad Stine
I've changed it for the people that don't know anything about computers! And that get to wound up about n00bs...
Cheat King
----------
it a clickable link as described here.
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
1) I build my own systems, bub.
Not all folks who "know anything about computers" write code all day. Some of us actually have lives.
2) I'm not wound up about n00bs.
I just don't like doing other ppl's work *for* them...(well, not unless they PAY me, anyway...)
And btw:
:: cough, cough :: Descriptor :: cough, cough ::
(*link* to descriptor = insufficient)
"I don't hate cats...as long as they stay on the freeway, where they belong."
- Brad Stine
What I was saying was that JTH does know what Lazarus is because he writes code in it or Delphi, but he's mentioned it before...
Are you in America? It's 05:17 here...
Cheat King
----------
@ Cheat King:
Yeah, but what about the *rest* of us?...
"I don't hate cats...as long as they stay on the freeway, where they belong."
- Brad Stine
I didn't want people who don't know Lazarus to do it.
Cheat King
----------
...to do *what*, exactly?...
All I'm ever looking to *do* with request posts is to figger out what the product is, and can do.
...And, a product name like "Lazarus" conjures up images of software that will resurrect a dead HDD, or else rescue data deleted by mistake, etc., so I was intrigued to know what "Laz" is about.
Thus, a simple descriptor would've instantly eliminated me and others from bothering to pursue this product that you apparently don't want us non-coding types to know about anyway.
"I don't hate cats...as long as they stay on the freeway, where they belong."
- Brad Stine
The link to the wikipedia page is pretty sufficient. This for object programming in OpenPascal, Lazarus is trying to be an open equivalent to Delphi, which is the language that the PortableApss Menu is programmed in, I think. Please, please, please, Have a little more patience with people.
For one, calling programmers people without real lives is quite rude, and two, the OP may have thought that it wasn't their job to do your work. It goes both ways. He may have thought that making a clickable link to a relevant description was enough and beyond that it would be hand holding. Just saying.

The link to the wikipedia page is insufficient, as it makes interested folks work harder to find out something that the poster coulda/shoulda told us in the first place. Think about it: How much effort does it take to write "Open Pascal object programmer app"?
Have a little more patience with people? - Hmmm, I simply typed a single word in allCaps, and in return I get a guy accusing me of not knowing anything about computers. So who's the one here who's overreacting?
Calling programmers people without real lives is quite rude? Well, I can see where you'd think that.
However, it was merely meant to underscore something the poster apparently doesn't know - namely, that code-writers aren't the only knowledgeable computer folks out there. Also, accusing folks of being "people that don't know anything about computers!" - simply 'cuz they don't happen to be familiar with a particular program for code-writers - is not exactly *courteous*, now, is it?...
May have thought that it wasn't their job to do my work?.. I beg to differ.
It hardly qualifies as my (the *reader's*) work to figure out what the poster is referring to, when app requests are made for the purpose of providing sufficient information *in the first place*.
And as stated above, the thread starter writing "Open Pascal object programmer app" - once - trumps several dozen or more people having to Google or Wikipedia it cumulatively.
Finally, in his original post, he said he didn't know what else he could post that was helpful - so, I provided him with an idea.
A clickable link to a relevant description was enough?
Um, nope. Esp. not when it takes fewer keystrokes to type a descriptor than to type in the URL.
Beyond that it would be hand holding?... Plz Xplain how five fairly short words qualifies as "hand holding".
Particularly when some descriptors can even be as short as 2 words (i.e., "text editor", "media player", etc.)

I know that I may be overstepping here, but in the time it took to write and send that response and all of the ones before it, could you not pop a look in the link. I was asking for more patience, not just on this post, but in general. It seems like you throw up all caps, or are snappish. If someone doesn't post what you in particular want, you seem to get upset. I figure, once in a while this seems okay, everyone has a bad day. But overall, you come off gruff. With the screen name Preacher, maybe a little more ," and they will know that you are mine, by your love."
Just a thought.
Have you had a chance to try that Portable e-sword beta I posted for you?

Could I not pop a look in the link? Sure, I did that earlier.
However, that just underscores my point - that 'tis easier & less work for the requestor to type a short descriptor (once) than for all interested parties to hafta Google/Wikipedia the program (repeatedly).
I "throw up all caps" mainly for emphasis - of whatever type - because I'm too lazy to insert the tags for various formatting options like italics, bold, underscore, etc.
Snappish? Contraire, mi amigo; I've seen rmccue, wsm and others post "Linky?" and other such requests many a time.
What I in particular want is not at issue. What is best/most convenient for all (or at least, "most") parties concerned is at issue. I'm not the only one thinking thusly, since wsm23 has included the 'descriptor' item in his suggested unofficial guidelines, and both stickies request "linkys", and such
I come off gruff because I tend to type the way I talk, which means that folks can't see the sly Jack Nicholsonesque grin, chuckling, and other nonverbal cues that would (otherwise) clue them in to the fact that I'm not mad. In fact, I can't say as I've "had a bad day" for the last few days.
Yup, I've had a chance to try that Portable e-sword beta. Works well, except I can't figger out how to get it to upgrade to new modules. Any tips?...

@ Cheat King
I'm not having a bad day at all. See above.

I am not a smiley abuser, but they do sometimes clear the air a bit.
As for the E-sword, can you drop a note in the E-sword thread, explaining what modules you are trying to upgrade, bibles or the whole package or what. I will try to see if I can help.
Thanks.

rmccue said that I didn't need a description anyways so... take that "bub"!

@ Cheat King:
rmccue said you didn't need a description anyways?...
Well, wsm sez different (unofficial posting guidelines).
So does common courtesy.
Word.
"I don't hate cats...as long as they stay on the freeway, where they belong."

please just get along. This is just everyone having a bad day, and we should all blame it on Abageet (Inside joke).
I actually said you don't need one, but you should probably have one.
I'm going to say the link was sufficient as it's easy to just open it in a new tab and read it later.
Oh and also, Cheat King, please don't call people names and that goes for the rest of you too.

Didn't see it was Preacher who called you "bub" first.
Anyway, doesn't really matter.

You find a fault about evey possible thing, just because you're having a bad day, doesn't mean we need to be in one!

please lock this thread! It's become pointless to the extreme.

I know, but I just really wanted someone to make it portable! Or show me in the direction of it!
Cheat King
----------
I'll make a launcher of it just let me play around with the app for settings and what not and I'll post the launcher for you
your friendly neighbourhood moderator Zach Thibeau
Thanks, I'm kind of a n00b at this, so... what is a launcher?
Cheat King
----------
In the shed at the moment (i.e. I'm working on it).
The launcher is what launches the program with special stuff to make it portable.

I said I had a version in the shed.
Anyway, no because I haven't had time.
