Mumble Legacy x64

The legacy version of Mumble is 32-bit only. It would be useful to provide the legacy x64 version of the application as well. It is publicly available:

32-bit Only

The portable app was 32-bit only so that it worked for everyone we support. When the app switched to 64-bit only, I created the legacy package for users who are no longer supported. 64-bit users can just use the main one. There's no real reason to have a second legacy package.

Would it be possible to make

Would it be possible to make the legacy version both 32-bit and 64-bit? Mumble v1.4.287 is the last one to support Windows 7 which I use so I can't use any newer version of Mumble. I have noticed that only the latest portable version of Mumble (v1.5.634) is 64-bit. All the previous ones were 32-bit only.

Why?

The question would be why? What does the 64-bit version do that the 32-bit version doesn't?

I did it as 32-bit only as it had no advantage to use 64-bit. Most apps work this way.

Due to the fact that I use 64

Due to the fact that I use 64-bit OS I prefer to use 64-bit apps in order to get the maximum performance. When it comes to Mumble, the 64-bit version is said to work better with plugins and overlay.

Replace Yourself

You're welcome to replace the files yourself with the 64-bit versions.

You'll likely see no difference. As a general rule, 64-bit offers no advantage over 32-bit for the vast majority of apps. Where there are exceptions, I build dual architecture apps. But these are few and far between. Browsers, for instance. Text editors let you edit very huge (over 1GB) files. 7-Zip has about a 5% performance advantage but on specific file sets can be up to 9 or 10% (seriously, that's all). Most of the now 15 year old post I originally made still holds true: https://portableapps.com/node/24371

Of course, now that Windows 7 and 8.1 are end of lifed and 10 is end of life this year... and Windows 11 is only available in a 64-bit variant... most Windows apps are switching over to 64-bit only.

So I can just copy-paste the

So I can just copy-paste the 64-bit version of Mumble into MumblePortableLegacy32bit\App\Mumble and it will just work in portable mode if launched via MumblePortableLegacy32bit.exe?

Yup

Yeah. The launcher is always a 32-bit EXE, even for 64-bit only apps.

if the replaced exe has 32 in

if the replaced exe has 32 in name, you maybe have to name the 64 the same so the launcher finds, instead of touching launcher.
