Jarte not working in Wine 10.0 on Ubuntu Jammy

My apps are up to date, so this is the latest version of JartePortable on PortableAppsPlatform 30.1. It starts but just shows and empty window with lines on both sides and a scrollbar.

When you click it or try to use the scrollbar it crashes.

Here is my console output

noalternative@HPBudgiebox-Zako:~/.wine/drive_c/users/noalternative/PortableApps/JartePortable$ wine -h

I have tried different versions of wine with the same result. I have also deleted my wine prefix and reinstalled Jarte.

This program is basically a skin over wordpad.exe.. I do see a wordpad.exe in /Program Files/Windows NT/Accessories . This is where it would be if it were Windows, but I wonder if perhaps you changed the programming to accommodate this change in Windows 11, I am aware that Windows 11 no longer includes WordPad by default. https://www.windowslatest.com/2024/10/02/windows-11-24h2-deletes-wordpad...

It might be something else, I

It might be something else, I'm running Win10 21H2, I manually deleted Wordpad from the OS, downloaded Jarte and gave it a try, it runs and shows perfectly.

I once had this similar experience with Supermium on Windows 7 as a VM, few months ago, I have no idea why that happened, I just moved to Firefox ESR 115 on that situation.

Did you tried to see if running under X instead of Wayland does any difference? Some rendering process might be at fault there, at least I guess is worth pointing that one out, cause who knows, right?

Might you be able to give it a try using WinBoat or even Proton if possible? Just to see if any of those work as a workaround at least or if the issue continues.

I may be installing Ubuntu later on as a VM and check if this works or has the same issue.
EDIT:
After spending 12+ hrs just trying to make Ubuntu 22.04 to try to install Wine but returning issue after issue, I give up, I don't know what mess the devs made with the repositories & packages because years ago this wasn't an issue at all & it was pretty straightforward, thus I'm already tired of trying, so I'm not going to be able to test it under your specifications. I really want to say it's a skill issue of mine, but looking at all the mess from the community across the web, I'm quite unspoken about it, sorry.

I gave it one last try...

So I was finally able to install wine, don't ask me how I did it cause I just did the same thing I was already doing, anyway, here's a screenshot of me running Jarte, this is the standalone one, not through the PortableApps platform.

So I did some more testing because clearly there are some graphical issues, I logged under XOrg instead of Wayland & that fixed the issues as well.

Edits done to fix some spelling & added additional info.

I am using Ubuntu Budgie 22.04 which already uses X11

I had over 500 fonts so I disabled some of them. Could that have done it? Is there possibly and ini fille that let's me change default font?

I also tried stand alone Jarte and it had the problem too.

I don't think the flavour has anything to do with this

Just to make things clear, you're using Ubuntu Budgie 22.04.X LTS, right? I don't really think the flavour has anything to do with this, nor the fonts as you mention, specially cause the graphical issues I had were on a fresh-install o Ubuntu.

I'm going to give it a shot to Budgie and some other flavours I already have downloaded & I'll report to you on the matter, but I still believe Wayland it's at fault or at least some communication among Wine-Stable 10 with Wayland..

Alright...

Well thanks for the info, although this may take some time, Wine is giving headaches once again not installing version 10...

Could you provide me the steps you took to install wine, just to see if there's something different on what I'm doing and I haven't noticed yet.

EDIT I was able to install and run Wine 10.0 with Wine Mono under Budgie 22.04.5 LTS up to date and Jarte standalone with no graphical issues. Here's a screenshot.

The only thing I can think I might have done different

is the font thing.

If I recall I used the instructions for noble not jammy, because jammy instructions were saying to install the focal repos, which I figured was a typo. https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/wikis/Debian-Ubuntu

WineHQ's Install code for jammy has a typo

Yes, when looking at the code for Jammy through the WineHQ install instructions, they misstyped "focal" instead of "jammy", it's something I noticed when I was getting issues to install it the very first time.

I advice you to completely purge all Wine related & Repo from your OS & then reinstall correctly.
I still don't think it's about the fonts because as far as I know Wine downloads its own fonts for best compatibility or at least I believe I had seen some download lines saying "downloading font..."

Edit: Forgot to mention, right after you finish installing it, run winecfg,if all went right wine will ask to install Wine Mono, click install & then try the Platform & Jarte.
