PortableAppsMenu simply crashes on running

I've got win2000 sp4.
I've installed v1.0 and the v1.0-1.1 patch.
When I run the StartPortableApps.exe I get an error from Explorer.

Program Error
Portableappsmen.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.
An error log is being created.

Of course I've no idea where this log could be.

Can't see any relevant event viewer log either.

It does work in win2K?

With the 1.0.1 patch

It works in Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista and Wine under *nix. All tested and verified by thousands of folks. Is there anything unique about your box you can think of? Faulty video driver that doesn't like alpha blending?

a workable solution

I realize that the previous post was an attempt to find out what the error was, however, rude it might have appeared to be. I had a similar problem with my Win2k box. All programs DO work perfectly fine except this PortableAppsMen.exe. The solution I have found is to download all the parts seperately and create shortcuts in your flash root directory (like "G:\", or whatever YOUR drive letter is) to the exact application. Yes, this means it's not as pretty, but then you are sure that even on your win2k box..all works fine.

I realize this doesn't fix the problem with the software, but at least you can still use it *grin*

Rude?

He asked a question (It does work in win2K?) and I answered it (With the 1.0.1 patch, It works in Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista and Wine under *nix.). And then offered up some possibilities.

The other possibility is to try the latest beta (1.0.2 Beta 3 Pre-Release 2 from the beta forums).

I love having to defend myself again to a 9 hour member.

He's a nube

John,

There was NOTHING rude about your question/response at ALL.

It would never occur to me to post as the "9" hour guy (now at 12 hours, 45 min) did unless I had been "lukering" in the group at least a week and even than it would have to an emergency ["Wait, stop, here's a very important thing you did not take into account] to make something like this my first post.

You have NO need to defend yourself

Menu patch and Display Beta not fixing Menu Display in win2k

My Win2k is Sp1 and I have installed the patch and I still do not receive the nice looking menu in my environment. I then read this thread and downloaded the Display Beta Menu and I am able to have the menu, just not the nice looking one.

When I run StartMenu in an XP public environment, all is well, just not at my home Win2k system.

I run my 21" screen at 1024X768 and the menu is flat and black with the only thing displaying in the menu window the portable install files in a subfolder on the left and on the right it looks flat and maybe documents, music and video showing in a flat manner on the right side. Not very functional at all.

What am I doing wrong ? I could run without menu but I would have create batch files to run each app and have these batches loaded on the thumbs root for access.

Looking for help.
